Thats what i dont understand with you guys? OIL WILL BE GONE IN 40 YEARS!

Coal will run out and sure it may not produce the same amount of pollution currently but hardly anyone is using electrical cars right now so what about when that starts booming and electrical production goes through the roof? we need to focus on renewable clean resources like hydrogen, salt water and solar. everyone can blame the oil companies but i'm sure they realize they wont have oil for that much longer, do you honestly think that they are just ignoring the fact and just plan to disappear when the oil does? hell no, there just as worried about it as all of us. and im sure there working to find a way to continue there massive profits when the oil runs out.

Bottom line is we need to find a renewable resource to use in current internal combustion engines that can use the current infrastructure.

its easier to place blame then to step up and find a answer. so blame who you want but in the end does it really help any of us?

Good points Bwcad1.

1 hour of Sun Energy exceeds all the man made energy produced for the entire year. That's pretty incredible.

There are limitless amounts of resources we have to capture this energy. The process of building a photo voltaic solar panel cell requires not a whole lot more than SAND.

I also really believe hydrogen is the future. Come on now, when are we going to run out of water?

I hate politics, but most people are extremely blind to this one source that could honestly solve SO many of our environmental problems in the world today.

It can be grown anywhere in the world, it reaches full maturity in one growing season, grows at incredible rates, the roots of this plant surpass any other, and are a simple solution to mudslides, the plant makes as much paper using 1 acre as 4acres of trees, the seeds have the most perfect ratios of essential fatty/amino acids for humans, and are only second to soy beans in protein, its one of the most pure sources of food for humans. It requires NO herbicides or pesticides, which are currently decimating farmers in the US...50% of the herbicides are used on cotton, which covers 1% of the country.

Know what the plant is yet? probably, those are some typically common traits of the plant that you might hear, but what about things like Henry Ford using the oils in his automotive manufacturing, what about Queen Victoria using tinctures of it for her menstrual cramps? Or when George Bush Sr's plane was shot down in the war his shoelaces, and parachute were made from this plant, his plane's engine used the plants oil...prior to the 1930's it was widely used. In fact during, I believe it was the Revolutionary war?? There was a mandatory law in which you had to have at least a field of this plant on your land.

What about the fact that the federal government has it scheduled as "highly addictive" with "absolutely no medical benefit" when doctors all over the country are prescribing it to patients.

It was one of the US top resources up until it was outlawed in 1937, because a few key members of congress were highly financially interested in DuPont, which was just coming out with their new fiber (nylon) and this plant was too much of a threat. outlawed in 90 seconds...

Cannabis.

I'm not trying to start a marijuana debate because I know that's frowned upon on the boards, but if anyone wants to privately discuss the subject I'd love to.

Oh and for the haters: all that information is public, taken from Dept. of Agriculture reports, yes, government reports, Popular Mechanics articles, etc, not "stoner hear say"

"On September 6, 1988, the Drug Enforcement Administration's Chief Administrative Law Judge, Francis L. Young, ruled: 'Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man," and asked the Drug Enforcement Administration to reschedule it. The DEA refused, keeping it as a Schedule I drug, which they say "has no known medical use"'

wait a second... how did we get on pot? I was talking about oil replacement... Thats a seperate issue all together. One that i'm not very comfortable talking about because i do not know all the facts nor do I condone marijuana abuse, yes abuse not use. And there is such a thing as abuse for marijuana as there is for anything.

Sorry not my bag.

That's exactly the problem right there.

Aside from the quote..my input had nothing to do with pot. So many people do not understand the biological value behind the plant. Marijuana is the female flowers of the plant, sinsemilla. That's what gets you high. If you've ever seen "bud" thats from a female plant ONLY.

Hemp is the industrially grown male plant. Male plants have little to no THC in it. In other words, to try to get high off of smoking hemp would be just as effective as getting high from trying to smoke cotton, a pine tree, or some other plant material.

My fear came true, once again its impossible to talk about hemp without someone bringing up "dope". And just for the record the US is the ONLY country in the world that has a ban against growing hemp.

And the reason I brought it up is because this topic is about alternate fuel sources and hemp can be made into biomass. Its obviously not a huge energy source for the amount you would be producing but given all the other uses and its ability to grow its not farfetched.

Anyways I apologize for coming out of thin air with something drug related but all I ask is that you consider the fact that your views on marijuana as a drug should be DIFFERENT than your views on hemp. They are NOT the same thing.

And I have a pair of Bravox Coaxs to the person who can prove to me how to get high off hemp or what harm growing hemp could bring! :sm29:
