So I am compiling the final pieces of my SQ system that I will be finishing up this spring. The car is a 95 300ZX. As for what I already have installed are as follows:

Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT head unit
JL Audio 500/1 amp
JL Audio stealthbox housing a JL Audio 10w6v2 sub

Now Im looking for component speakers and was thinking Infinity Kappa Perfect components for the front, and Kappa 2 ways for the rears. (I know I dont need rears, I want them anyway.)

NOW - To power those speakers I was thinking of going with JL Audio. Questions is 300/4v2 or 450/4v2. Which is better? More powerful? Will really make my components shine? I would rather have more power and not have to use it than to not have enough and need more.

I listen to music at high levels.

So which one to get?

If you're going for SQ... then ditch the rears completely and take the money and use towards a even better front stage... If you feel the need to have something in the back, go with midbass and not coax.

If you are in fact wanting to compete in SQ comps, you DO NOT want rear speakers playing unless your competing in DTS or something like that. It will ruin your soundstage. Look into a good 2-way component set and get the 4 channel to go active. Just my 2 cents.....

Actually I wont be competing. This is for my personal listening pleasure, but I am HUGE into a good sound quality system as I am a music buff.

Do I REALLY not need to go with rear speakers? The problem with the Z (at least for me) as that my leg covers the speaker in the drivers side door while driving. And the speaker sits quite low and towards the front of the door (by the hinges) so they are almost under the dash.

Which amp do you guys suggest? The 300/v2 or the 400/v2 ? That was basically the original question. Thanks!

depends on the speakers your going to use. If you do in fact go with front and rear speakers, get the 450 and you'll have ample power for a loud front stage. I would get the 300 and run active on the front. If you get a comp set for the front that will not handle 150 or even get close, just get the 300. LOL I'm not sure what else to say here

Don't use rear speakers. Using rear speakers to compensate for your leg is like ... damn, I can't think of a retarded funny annalogy right now. But you get the picture. And, you'll have to be careful throwing around a term like SQ then insisting on rear speakers. lol. That's a little like saying you're going to build an SPL car, but you want to use audiobahn amps because you like thier bling factor. Well, there's your annalogy for the first case too. lol.

Unless your leg is actually resting directly on the speaker, your leg isn't an issue.
And for the amp situation, I think I'd agree with Joey C, but if you do decide on rears... Go with midbass rather than coax like I said earlier, you'll thank me later ;)

lol

Thanks for the input gentlemen. And yes, my leg literally rests about an 1inch above the drivers side door speaker. There is a noticeable difference in sound when I pull my leg away.

you can mount your tweeters in a better position, just be sure to measure out that the tweeter is roughly the same distance away from your ears as your mid-range
