All I could afford this go around.
Plans are for a AMD 6400+ Black Processor. XFX 512 Vid card, and a single SATA 80 gig or so hard drive.
This computer is jsut getting to slow for my CAD work and well, ive had it for 7 years! lol. In which time Ive replaced the case, then the motherboard and vid card over the summer.
I thought about upgrading it, but the cost is outrageous... May aswell pay another 1/3 and get something worth it!

Congrats man! Always feels good to get a new comp and load up a fresh copy of XP (I hope not Vista

). Consider shelling out 100$ and getting a 400gb harddrive. Storage is so cheap now that it'll be worth it incase you end up needing mass storage.

Have you looked into power supplies yet? I wouldn't skimp on it. Make sure you get a good one. It can make or break the overall performance and longevity of your system. Too often people overlook their power supply. It would be like having the best of all the audio equipment the market has to offer with a used alternator from a junk yard. It just doesn't make sense.

Well my XP is supposed to support 2 computers, so Im going to try installing it on the new comp when its ready.
I think my case has a 450 or so watt power supply that came with it... Ive been using it for like 5 years now with no issue.

You may need a more powerful power supply. But I would try it without a newer one first.
With XP, I don't think you'd need more than 2 gigs unless you are really running something intense. The speed of the memory is almost more important than the size.
Seeing links to newegg makes me feel all warm inside

It's not all about the watts with the power supply. You're suppose to have very specific voltages for everythign to operate optimumly. If your voltages fluctuate too much or are fractions of a volt off one way or the other, it's not good for the system. You'll never know it until you experience a computer with a much higher quality power supply. Once you do, you'll be sold. I'll never use a power supply that comes with a case again. You study and research to get the best board, best video, best ram, best CPU, why not the best power supply too?
