Question about Maxxsonics MM-1

Hi guys, been a while, as usual stopping in to say hi and ask a question.
This MM-1 unit by Maxxsonics, can I use my I-Pod with this thing as a stand-alone player? For instance, can I just take my head unit out, install this thing where my HU USED to be, and run my I-Pod through my system?
The only reason I ask is because in the description there is mention of using this device "through" whatever HU you already have. None of the pics are good enough for me to see exactly what this thing looks like all the way around.
I figured if someone here has ever seen, used, installed, or done anything else (???) with one, they could let me know!!!
