I need help choosing the right amp(s) for a 3 sub system. The subs being used are http://sonicelectronix.com/item_4281_Al ... PE+R-.html

So do you prefer the overall look of 3 or is there any other reasoning for 3 - 12" over say 2 - 15"?

no its just because my trunk is big enough to fit 3 and i dont want 15's

Being dual 4 Ohm subs you will have some very strange wiring.

Go with 2 of them and wire it to 1 Ohm and get a nice Hifonics amp for them and be done.

If you go with three, you will need a much more expensive amp that can handle the lower impedance. You dont want to do this, cause it will cost you probably twice as much for power...

^ Ryan has a very good point.
If you go with 3) 4ohm DVC, the wiring configuration would have to be series/ parallel and you'd be somewhere in the 2.667 ohm range, so your amp will not see it's full potential for power...

That's why I asked about 15"s, you'd be looking at relatively the same displacement and space usage and it would be far easier to wire and keep your amp happy... But that's just my suggestion :)

I experienced that situation firsthand. I have the Memphis Belle amp, which is 1 ohm stable on the sub channel, and powered a pair of JL 10W6 woofers. Being dual 6 ohm voice coils, the best I could get to the amp was 1.5 ohm, I was seeing about 75% of the amp's power potential. I have since installed a single 12" Memphis MOJO (dual 2 ohm) and wired for 1 ohm - OMG what a difference.

your impedance rise plays a major diffrence in that aswell ;)
