8w7 setup

Well soon after my engine swap, i plan on changing over to a better dual 12" killer.

I went to a local car audio store to hand in a resume, they looked interested in teaching me. And a few of you know Audio Xtreme in odgen, utah.

Well i listened to a JL 8w7 in a slot ported box, oh my dear lord. That setup will blow away plenty of these kids dual 12" setups, And i can open the trunk and be . "dude there is something wrong with your setup, just one 8" LMAO!!!

So for right now, i want to purchase a 8w7 from audio xtreme, and build the box on my own, using JL audio's recommend ported box setup.

Only question i have about it, is do you think my Boss CH850 mono amp could power it for a temporary time till i can afford a JL 250/1? It's rated at 400w rms at 2ohm's. So i would say that could push out 300watts at 3ohms or around there..

Any suggestions would be great, but i need to get rid of this stupid MTX 7500 15" not enough sound quality and it's too quiet for my taste :happy055:

Although I don't recommend the Boss Chaos amps to anyone normally, since you already have it I'll give ya some info on it... The CH850M will do 400w rms x 1 @ 2ohm.
And let me fair warn you that the 8" that you looked at is going to be much quieter in your trunk than it was in the showroom and I wouldn't expect it to be louder than a 15" that handles the same power (400wrms).
If you really wanna blow kids minds with a single small sub... You're gonna have to up the juice to something that will handle a lot more power ;)

Yeah you really need to do 3 subs, if your planing on running the 8W7 and getting good output.

Now that being said. I have heard 3 8W7s in a car and was very impressed. Better SQ than my 12W7, and still some damn good output. Sure they don't play as low, but the SQ made up for it.

sq never makes up for a lack of bass.....now killer bass can make up for a lack of sq but not the other way around....lol

see the thing is that 8w7 setup in the show room, had numerous setups also. Basically all JL audio and Diamond Audio. And the 8" basically pounded away most of the subs like dual d3's and some kind of w3 setup.

Maybe with your guys input, i should consider a dual 10" MTX 5500 setup, considering they are probably the best subs mtx ever made. No one believes me but it's true, there is a reason they still are priced up with the 8500 series, where as a 5500 12" is around 90$ cheaper.

Also another considering in mind is a 12w7. I don't know ever since i heard w7 i fell in love with SQ and the SPL output of a w7....

Oh hear i go again, i want to have sq and spl equal and have a lot of it...

I want to spend less then 1000$ on just the sub and amp so any suggestions would be good

Start by seeing if Bill has the 10" FSQs done (or almost done yet)... Then add in a good Quality 1000-1500wrms amp and you'll have a real nice combo :D

^There's your answer... Now you just need to get one that has dual 2 ohm voice coils and then say a Massive P1000.1 or P1500.1 (may have to look at H.O. alternators in the future), but that would have you Out Bumping everybody in town... Then pop the trunk and say "What? It's only one lil 10" :thumbsup
