Ok after months of thinking on the idea we had decided on early i have scrapped my plans for an active set up, i just dont quite have the time anymore for the tweaking wiring etc.. So i have narrowed it down to three setups moderatley priced when installed properly any of the three should blow my current system out of the water... JL TRs.. Here are the choices reasoning for answers is always good!!!
JBL GTI- i like the size and well built midrange....

Pioneer premier- recieved a very strong review in car audio magazine any thoughts???

Lastly i have the Alpine type X comps,

I have also listend to the 2 way and 3 way sets of XR components and wasnt truely impressed, I am going for a great all around system that isnt to harsh in the higher frequencies, Tweeter will be placed within aobut 3 inches of the midrange. I love midbass well really any time of bass that is important to me to have a good extension from the midrange also. Thanks for all of your help!!!

If your tweeters are going off axis at all, do not go with the Alpine set. They're great on axis, but you lose a ton of FR off axis. Bad off axis FR is good in a car because it limits reflections... Assuming that it's on axis to YOU. :)
I've heard a lot of good things about the Pioneer set from a lot of different people. Plus it's prettier.
I don't know anything about the JBL set.

I gotta go with the rest of the pack on this one... Pioneers in my opinion best of the choices you have layed out.

The JBL set is more exacting and has a cleaner sound to it, but they're on the bright side. The midbass driver is built like a tank and has a very good motor on it, it can take a lot of power and is very dynamic.
The Pioneer set is very nice as well, is a little warmer sounding as well as more natural sounding. Midbass output is very good, it's more of a deeper, fuller bass than tight and punchy (doesn't have as much of a rolloff in the ~80hz region)
Alpine set probably has the better crossover adaptability and the nicest tweeter IF implented correctly, but the set as a whole isn't as dynamic as the above two and the midbass driver leaves something to be desired.
I'd probably say the Pioneers are the best overall setup for most types of music and those of differing recording quality.
