Ok well I finally listend to the much anticipated Minutes to Midnight Album that Linkin Park Just debuted. Here are my impressions
Actually here is the track list first:
1.Wake
2.Given Up
3.Leave Out All The Rest
4.Bleed It Out
5.Shadow Of The Day
6.What I've Done
7.Hands Held High
8.No More Sorrow
9.Valentine's Day
10.In Between
11.In Pieces
12.Little Things Give You Away, The
Ok well First track is just an Intro but a well thought out one at that.
Track 2 sounds more like a Punky sound than traditional LP still not too bad.
Track 3 is a little wierd, taking on almost a ho-down clapping feel to it
Track 4 is not too shabby but still not traditional LP
Track 5 more Emoish than anything but still LP does a great job with the Harmonys and the main chorus
Track 6 was their debut single and speaks for itself. IMO not their best work.
Track 7 was a HUGE suprise. A mix between Christian Rock and Anti Political Sentiment. An obvious statement against the war, the Elitists, and the incompetence of George Bush. Definitely Anti-War and Anti-Bush. Still very powerful and reminds me of Ozzy Osbournes "Killer of Giants" track that he released.
Track 8 is confusing to me because after track 7 it almost seems like this also could be directed at GWB. Maybe it is or maybe its a directed attack on anyone who has misled someone, but it seems to carry on a similar message that was presented in track 7
Track 9 is pretty strait forward, but the title of the song has little correlation to the meaning of the track
Track 10 is mostly about the struggle of someone trying to please several people at once and falling "in between" those people. Good song and meaningful but again not Traditional LP
Track 11 and 12 both let me down with little traditional LP and little thought in the way the chorus's were designed. Both had semi meaningful lyrics just not presented or played in the way that you would expect from Linkin Park
Conclusion.... The cd plays out like this .... ok ok ok better better Yes... Yess... WOW WOW... oh hmmm ok... yea get on with it...
The 2nd track and the middle of the CD is the best from track 5 to track 8 or 9 but falls short in the end and really doesnt deliver what you would expect from Linkin Park. Chester belts out some crazy vocals and an unexpected amount of screaming. Some tracks there is little if any screaming or aggressive singing, and on others none at all, but some meaningful lyrics..
Base line assesment... I give it about a 5 out of 10 with a possible 6 out of 10 for ingenuity and creativity factor... One thing is for certain... if you want to hear traditional LP... You will get little of that on this album
