I was checkin out
http://www.darkscience.com.au/caraudiohowto/slotcalc/ and i was just messing around w/ port length. How come the smaller the diameter or width of the port, the smaller the length needs to be. wouldnt a smaller diam/width decrease the port volume? i would think the opposite would happen?

It does decrease the port area. Tuning isn't about the port area, it's the friction that the port area creates that determines the tuning of the box.

Correct me if im wrong, but is any port width smaller than 3" bad? If so why? Im just still new to this whole ported thing and am trying to learn as much as possible. thanx.

Depends on what kind of speaker you're talking about, 10" or above of average sorts, 4" is a minimum in my book. More port area is better.

With a small portm like 3", subwoofers that move a lot of air will cause port noise, or basically a high pitched whistle from the port.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but is it "bad" for a box to be tuned to a frequency lower than the subwoofers 'Fs'? Say for instance the subs Fs is 33 and the box is tuned to 30?
