High Pitched Whine...

I have a high pitched whine when I listen to am radio even when the car is not running. I checked the ground at the amp and all is good (12.99 volts) without the alternator. The radio is powered by the starter battery and the amp is powered by the deep cycle battery. Both are grounded to the chassis. Any tips for fixing it?

ground loop most likely. multiple ground locations can cause that.

is it a gm vehicle? they are notorious for that espescially on the am band.....ground the head unit, amps, batteries and if neccessary run a ground wire from the antenna plug all to the same spot

I've seen this as well on a few different vehicles ranging from GMs to Hondas... Definately a ground.

I knew I would get that from someone. LOL

It is a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup and the amp is grounded to the seatbelt bolts. The radio is grounded to the factory harness ground wire. Over the weekend I will ground the radio to the seatbelt bolt and see if that helps. Thanks for the input. It has been helpful.

What year 1500? I have one as well and i found it useful to drill a new hole in a metal bracket behind the stereo and ground there.
