Both IMO. You get job security, regular raises, improved benefits ect.... Bad thing is you have to pay dues, and attend meetings. I have never personally been part of a union, but my father was. It never seemed to bother him, other than the dues.

In this day and age, it can really go either way... As Brent pointed out unions have their pros and cons, with benefits and raises, but with union dues...
Non-union jobs however many times may pay more per hour with less benefits and obviously no union dues, so it's really kind of a toss up... especially pending the industry.

I firmly believe that unions are a large part of what's destroyed the US auto industry. With current labor laws on the books, I don't think unions are a necessity any longer.

I'm not really sure if the union here could be considered good or bad, but to get into an apprenticeship would definately be a step in the right direction union or not ;)

I'd say 50/50 on that, just really depends on who is really there to help the ppl, or try and make themselves rich by rippin off the company and the workforce. Some places without a union are ran like a prison and the workers there are worked to death. Can you say 21st century slavery.

Then there are unions that did what glasswolf mentioned. Just look back at the GM plants in 86 I believe. It just really boils down to who runs the place and the type of morals the man has.
