Got power, need a nice comp set

Post by matt12490 »

I have registered here more than a year ago and this may be my first post (I really have no idea). I am over at ecoustics and Fishy has said good things about CAC, specially for speaker help.

I am finally looking to spend my money on a nice component set. I want a 6.5" 2-way set with a silk tweeter. I have a US Amps md-22 which puts out 200w @ 4ohms. I can always turn down the gain a bit if needed. I have a 12" Fi Q which is going to be ported @ 32hz and I want a nice set to compliment and keep up with the Q. I have a $300 budget, but can scrap together a bit more (~$50) if really worth it, but let's just go with I have a $300 budget.

I have looked into the Rainbow SLC 265 regular, kicks, and Boston Pro60s. I am still very lost on what to get though. Can anyone help recomend?

Yeah I would sugest the JL XRs, but I don't know if he would like the tweeter.

But they are one heck of a bang for your buck component set.

Or you can do a set of Brazox Kevlars. I FINALLY got my friend over so we could install his, and was VERY impressed for the price. Put them in a well dampened door, and they have a ton of mid range output.

That's Bravox you mean :)
I have the 5.25s in my doors. They don't do bad at all. You'll need an EQ to get the midbass out at decent levels but it handles. I think having them more on-axis would really help the sound though.

CDT EF or HD series.

Them Bostons look alright, pricey. Some on E bay selling for $150 mark.

The JL XRs are always a possibility as mentioned. I hear they are pretty damned good set.

ARC audio is always decent.

With the Rainbow, I think you need to pay a bit more (go up more levels) to start getting really what you paid for. So I would pass on them.

So which one of these sets can handle 150-200rms?

Any other suggestions? I really want the CDT hd series but they are a little to pricey, maybe if I found them used somewhere..
