Hey guys, im very new at this whole speaker thing and know next to nothing about them. My front left(door) speaker in my 95 grand am stopped making noise, and when it did all it did was make a very annoying high pitched static sound, so i talked to a couple friends who told me it was prob busted, so i was able to get it out and i even bought a replacement 5 1/4 set of speakers, now heres the problem.. when i connect the positive wire to the positive end of the speaker and the same with the negative, it appears to be working but the only noise that comes out of it is a low staticy sound. Am i doing something wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated

so many places to start.....is it otherwise a factory system? is it an amplified factory sytem? i doubt it but it sounds like either a pinched wire or bad power to the speaker somewhere...or just a short....either way try running new wires from the door directly to the head unit....

yeah everything including the old speaker was stock.. the nly thing i ever changed about the sound system was that i put a head unit in the car, which i recently replaced back to a stock unit.

hey thanks for all your help but over the coarse of the day ive discovered the problem. the current head unit that i put in my car to replace one that has no radio, for some reason the speaker that i replaced wont work while that unit is connected. its not a matter of connecting a speaker correctly but getting a head unit that isnt faulty. Thanks again.

that was gonna be step 2....actually part of step 1....if you connected the speaker directly to the head unit and got nothing and it is a known good speaker, then you know your head unit is bad
