Equalizer help?

I am upgrading my system but I can't change the flip-up headunit because it was a gift but does not have an EQ. It only offers bass and treble controls. It has both speakers-out and rca pre-outs. I am adding an amp, front speakers, and subs so I really need more EQ controls.

What do you suggest?

Hay beach, why do you think you need an EQ?

Allot of people think that an EQ will make there stereo sound better or louder, but without a profesional, or someone with an RTA doing the tuning, they tend to make it sound worse.

If you really want things to sound better, spend your EQ money on a nice set of components, and an amp for them. $$$ for $$$ you will get more from the components than you will an EQ.

Give that a try, and if your still not happy you can look into Audio Control. I run their DQS, and it gives me way more control than I need.

I agree with Jeremy, spend the money on a good set of components and an amp and you will have some real good sound coming from your speakers.

Holy super equalizers Batman! I was thinking about a little in-dash 7-9 band EQ. This is for a 1999 Dodge Ram Pick-up extended cab. I heard a pair of Elemental Designs 7" subs with an Infinity 6-1/2" component set in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it sounded okay to me (lightly bright but can be tamed). So far I have the DVD flip-up headunit, ED 6500's, (2) ED 7" subs, (1) infinity 7540a amp (111x4 or 111x2+278x1) rms, 150 plus sf of Ed vse2 matting and 100 sf of closed cell ED v4 foam. What do you think?

So is this still a question of equalizers or is it now what do you think of my system?

I'm going to completely remove the factory infinity system and install the other gear that I have. I just wanted to give people some idea what I plan to install so that they would better understand what I am trying to do. I'm trying not to get hooked on this hobby because I know that I won't stop upgrading. In fact, I refuse to attend a sound show for that very same reason. I am also hoping that knowing the other gear will help people suggest a suitable basic EQ. I appreciate any and all comments good and bad.

ok,the reason i ask is cause i drive a dodge ram extended cab also, when u put in the new speakers are u planning on running them off of an amp? because the stock infinity speakers have built in amps and u got 4 wires running to them, its easiest just remove all the stock wires and start over new. and amp is the easiest way to hook them up. also keep in mind the stock mounting spaces are pretty shallow, to put my new 6x9s int he door i had to make wood spacers and cut my door pannels to make them fit. im thinkin 2 1/4 inch deep 6x9s was the most i could do with out all the extra work. the rear 5.25 mids u got plenty of space, its just ur front speakers u might have trouble with.

I going to replace the entire factory wiring and run everything off my Infinity 7540a amp. My 6.5 door speakers require 2.8" of depth. I plan to replace the rear 5.25 door speakers with the 7" subs after I apply the dampening mat and foam. I'd like to find a small in-dash EQ with memory. I like the Clarion but I just know that the knobs will get bumped and moved.

In that case, refer to JeremyC's post.
