For the same price polk sr6500 or dynaudio 240gt
For the same price polk sr6500 or dynaudio 240gt
Recently purchased the polk sr6500's based on all the reviews and positive feedback they receive on all forums ive come across....
However they are on backorder and I was offered the Dynaudio 240gt set for the same price for the inconvenience.
They will have 200 watts rms feeding them.
Does anyone have any experience with these....they will be mounted off-axis in stock locations. So should I wait for the Polks or "upgrade" to the dyn's?
Thanks

Well I gotta agree with everybody else on this one... The polks aren't bad, but if there offering you the Dynaudio for the same price... JUMP ON IT! :)

I have to agree with Jonathan for this one. Dyns sound very good, but the 240GT's are on a lower playing field as the Polks.
These polks are very nice sounding speakers.

The responses have been split 50-50 on here and other forums....I have read soo much about the Polks and overall no-one has really said anything negative about them.
After getting the upgrade offer I tried researching the Dyn 240gt's and you cant find anything on them?
Im going to stick it out and wait for the Polk's since I set out to get them in the first place.
Thanks for all the input!

The 240Gts are essentially similar to the 240MkIIs, except the midbass driver has a stamped frame instead of the typical cast frame. It was done to better accomodate vehicles with 6.5" speaker locations, the 240MkIIs can be a little large for some cars. The 240Gts, buildwise, are actually a bit lower in quality than the MkIIs are, mainly the suspension and motor alignment, joints and all for some reason are not put together as well, for whatever reason. A stamped frame doesn't have to be a bad thing if well designed, but in this case it is.
Past that, Car Audio and Electronics has tested both sets if you want the data. I'm not too big on subjective reviews, but I'm one that believes one datasheet from a credible source is better than 1000 opinions. Fortunately performance data is offered by CA&E for both sets:
http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/ ... akers.html
http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/ ... index.html
The only set I'd consider a competitor to the Polks in their price range would be the SEAS Lotus Reference components.
Dyn and Morel have slacked in the last couple years, I guess Dyn is really starting to show it's wounds having lost Skaaning. Morel licenses from Dyn's technology, so you can see how they suffer similarly due to the limitations of the motor design by today's standards. It isn't just that anymore, it's like the build quality is going down the crapper too compared to, say, a decade ago. Hell, the Hi-Vi 6.8 is a knockoff of the Dyn/Morel midbasses and actually outperforms them in distortion and only costs $60 per driver.

Thanks for the info Jonathan...I have read both reviews on Ca&e before, its nice to get some additional background info on the companies from someone like yourself.
On another forum everyone is still hammering away saying dyn dyn dyn...
Luckily the Polks will be in sometime next week, so they wait wont be too long.

Dyns are probably the best known high end corporation considering their prominence in the 80s until today, and the opinions will flow as such. That in itself doesn't make the equipment better. Let the performance do the talking, Polk is no less capable of putting out a great speaker. I haven't heard the new Dyn sets, but those are not the ones they were offering you anyway. Dyns really needs to update their motor technology to get the performance up, right now that's the thing that's killing them.
The Pioneer PRS comps are nothing to sneeze at, either, especially for the price.
