Milestone Birthdays

I had to just sit down and think for a minute. What is considered over the hill?

If we are considered over the hill, does that mean that life is pretty much as good as it can be or is there still a chance for something incredible to happen? In my experience, I can say that not only is there a chance, but the probability is that some of the greatest memories start at "40". My son is 17, will be leaving the home in a year, and who knows where the road will take him. But the road will always lead him home. God allows us to relish these days, to take in the vast blessings that He bestows upon us.

For instance, God will bring me Grandchildren. Something more amazing than I can ever expect or believe. I have no idea how many kids will grace us with their presence, but I know my heart will welcome them all. God gave us gray hair. Blessings of gray hair means that your life is reaching the peak of experience, much like snow on top of mountains. Not only does it show character, but it also shows strength. God gives us the eyes to see beauty, like the beauty that I see every morning. I get to watch her grow old, yet, because of God, my eyes will always see the beautiful woman I fell in love with.

Turning 40 is just a milestone. A time to see all the people that I love grow up, and grow old and grow close. We have learned how to have friends in grade school, we learned how to keep friends in high school, and we learned how to love friends in college. Now throughout the ages after college, we learned to put our education to use. These are the steps "up the hill".

At 40, we see the fruits of our education. That my friends...is why it is worth it.

Tonight I have 40 of my best friends, family and kids joining me for my 40th birthday. Tonight I get to see how much love God has given me through these people. Tonight I get to celebrate the awesome gift that God has given me. The chance to love even more for another 40 years. If this is "over the hill", I gladly accept it.

Pros and cons of the previous statement made by Joe:
Pros
1) Grandchildren
2) Kids leaving the house
3) Looking back and learning

Cons
1) grandchildren as wonderful as they are still require good parenting and that's where your kids keep buggin YOU about it (like we had a manual).
2) You still have to save your kids (and grand kids), but now there's a drive involved or lengthy phone call.
3) Now your sore from all those mistakes you learned from in the past.

All in all... No matter where you are in life... It will never be any more or less than what you make it :thumbsup

More ramblings from another old man :p lol
