500 watt rms 1000 watt max

Post by whiteboy »

my buddy just bought a 12 for his car.

its 500 watt rms and 1000 watt max

he figured that meant he shoudl get an amp the was between 500-1000 watts

the guy at the stereo shop told him he needed a 1200 watt amp to power it.

he was confused so he called me.

i would think putting 1200 watts to a speaker rated at 1000 max is a no brainer that something is gonna go wrong, probably a blown sub..

am i retarded or is the guy at the stereo shop??

both... joking.

he was probably giong to sell you an amp that did like 1200w max, 600ish RMS. that extra 100w probably won't be a problem. i've giving my sub an extra 400.
