Running two 12" Magnums @ 500wRMS, and i'm just wondering what LPF on my amp does? Also, what should it be set to? I didnt make any changes to my amp when I bought it. It was installed right out of the box, no setting changes made.
EDIT: amp is also magnum. It was a combo system for $200 lol...(my first system

)
also, they've been sounding kinda weird lately. The bass sounds wobbly instead of like real bass. I dont know how this happend, but maybe its the weather? It's only reached 15 degrees today, and its been around -10 this morning. Could the cold effect how they sound?

LPF = Low Pass Filter
HPF = High Pass Filter
LPF lets everything BELOW that frequency go to the speaker.
HPF let everything ABOVE that frequency go to the speaker.
Setting them both at the same time would give you a band pass. It'll let everything in a section between the HPF and LPF pass to the speaker.
You might getting used to the sound of your subs and are hearing more, hard to tell. If you changed any settings lately, that might be why.

I actually just might have been pushing my speakers too hard. I lowered my volume from 25 to 20, lowered my treble from 3 to 0, and raised my bass from -4 to 0. The bass sounds louder now that I did that, but I think the wobble sound was coming from my speakers being pushed too hard.
any idea of what good LPF and HPF settings are? or does it depend on the amp?

Settings for the LPF really depend on sub... but thats all technical stuff. A good point to use is around 80hz for both.

The subs should be crossed over as stated around 80 Hz. You can go a little higher to blend in if you like. Just play it by ear.

so you suggest both be set at 80hz?

Yes. Start with both of them at 80hz. Then play around with things a little bit by moving the speakers hpf around a little bit. If you set it below 80hz to say 60hz, they will play a litte bit more low stuff that your subs play. And then play with the lpf on the sub, you can movie it up a bit to play a little bit more, or move it down a bit to play a little less and have your front speakers pick up what the subs arent playing. The thing about moving it up though is that you will start to get men's deep voices playing out the subs.

can I have my subs running while I tweak these settings?

yes, do it while it is playing so you can see how the sub reacts when you start moving the lpf
