Ohms

Post by LilJay2003 »

i'm trying to understand ohm, i getting ready to buy 2 Alpine Type-r 4 ohms and i'm tryin to pick a good amp Class D monoblock amp. and i wondering what best for the speaker b/cuz i see some that stay 1 ohm stable and stuff like that. I'm just wanna know what should i be looking for the the loudest sound. i want a amp at least 800 watts /but i really want the Alpine Type X but i'm still thinking, But i'm not the competition type so i dont know, i have a friend who had Type r speaker with a old Punch amp so i know what these speaker can do, but know he has Diamond 12s and they really dont sound lounder to me. but that just me

Type R's are dual voice coil, so go to that section.

to add. Type R's are proven to do best in ported boxes(properly tuned/built), they will also handle much more than their rated rms. the 12"s are rated for 500rms, you could send it a 1000rms and be fine.. id give each of them atleast 500rms a piece for them to shine.. and ATLEAST 2.5 cubic feet a piece..

Ohms is the unit for resistance. If something has x Ohms, you're telling how much resistance it has. If you look up Ohm's Law, you can figure out other things like Watts or Amperage based on Ohms.
When you're looking at speakers and amplifiers, you just need to make sure the stuff you want is compatible in regards to resistance. Your sub is 2 ohms, you need an amplifier that is capable of running at 2 ohms. That's all there is to it.

I have a Ported Boxed Its one vent that run in the center 3x12( one vent for both subs/ So if i get a 4ohm type r i should run the amp at 4 ohms( i see amp that say like 400x1 at 4 ohm 600x1 at 2ohm etc/ but i also see some that say one ohm stable and i havent seen a 1 ohm speaker< well let me ask this ( 2 Alpine Type r 4 ohms) I'm looking for the loudest possiable bass which amp would you perfer and amp under 400 on ebay< the reason i say that b/cuz some amps on ebay retail for more than they do in store i'm sure everybody knows that. ( Are PPI , Power Aco, Dub ) are they good amps

ohms are the measurement for impedance. When voice coils are wired in series they represent double the load to the amp. Parallel represents half the load. use this link to help you out.

For a better idea of what's good in amps... check out the "Good, Bad, and Ugly list" in the FAQ threads.
Now onto you never seeing a 1ohm speaker... sure you have... A dual 2ohm voice coil speaker can be wired at 1ohm... also Your 2) dual 4ohm speakers wired in parallel will handle 2ohm a piece and wired together in parallel 1ohm.
And I agree with Scarrell, that you should probably be looking at a 1000wrms class D mono block... prefferably 1ohm stable.

PPI is good(Precision Power Inc.), Power Acoustik is OK, and DUB is Audiobahn junk... you will definately need a 1000-1500rms amp at 1ohm..

Thanks, I now understand how to wiring it up for 1ohm,( But this my last question) They make a 2ohm and a 4ohm Alpine Type R( right) the 4 ohm costing more, so i was going for those ( you get what you pay for, so i'm going for the speaker that cost more . i'm putting the order in Friday.so is one better that the other or you just go by what kind of amp your using Thanks for the help

There shouldn't really be a diffrence (except for a few minor specs), so I am not sure why the dual 4 ohm is more.

Either way get the ones that will match up the best with your amp, don't worry about which one cost more.

^ I'm with Jeremy on this one... the dual 4ohm are going to match up better, and I'm just as confused as to why the 4ohms are more money... they shouldn't be... so before you buy, shop around if you can for some that are the same price.
