What that guy said was actually wrong. Basically, tweeters really only play very high notes. Most of the music year hear comes out of the mid of the speaker(the woofer part). If you are having trouble hearing music over your subs, upgrade to a better coaxial or a set of components with an added amp.

Actually, what your tweeter plays is completely up to your crossover. For instance, I have my crossover set to 2.5Khz @ 24db/oct. Some might crossover at 1Khz and some might cross at 5Khz and up. But, as a generalization, tweeters will reproduce the higher frequencies. If you try to play lower frequencies than the tweeter can handle, it will be toast.

tweeters are the most overlooked speaker in a system usuually, if you think about it they are very vital to the soundstage of they system as they have th potential to cover the largest range of frequencies.....if you run your sub up to 75hz and then let your mid go from that point up to 2.5k hz, you are now asking the tweeter to cover up to 200000 hz, now granted that most information isnt goint to be that high but they still have the largest range of frequencies to cover and are generally a second thought if they even exist as more than the tweeter in a coax speaker.....

Tweeters play the largest RANGE in sheer numbers, but if you break that down to octaves, my 2-way midrange plays a lot more. Plus the information is much more critical. Just my midrange playing would sound pretty dull though without all those pretty harmonics to clear up the sound.
2,500hz -> 20,000hz = 4 octaves
80hz -> 2500hz = ~5 octaves, but ones with much more info
I'm not knocking the importance of a tweeter at all. I just switched out my Bravox tweets for my BGNeo3 planars and the difference was huge. The dispersion is way better for my crappy install, although I'm not a fan of the extended top end that it seems to have.
I just wanted to explain the difference between the two in a little more depth.

hell, just buy some HLCD's that have a compressed speaker that will handle all frequencies from about 600hz up. I had a set of USD Waveguides that were loud as hell, and had little "horn-loaded compression" drivers, that looked like a tweeter when we took apart a toasted driver.

Your staging will be there, depth will be there, and it will be extremely loud.

Would def be nice for keeping all that to one driver. I have horns on my Pro Audio speaker, I'm not really into their sound though.
How do they do down low? Does it sound like they're stressing because they're playing such a large range?

Not at all, just add a set of midbass drivers to complement them, and poof...perfect front stage. If Focal made some, I would be on them like Stink on a skunks ass

Hmm. How much is a decent set of those?

Sorry for offtopic.
