New Evanescence Album...

So yeah, did anybody find this album to suck balls as much as I did? I can't claim to be an Amy Lee fan because, quite frankly, her singing isn't all that great and she lacks range, but hey, the CD was put in front of me so why not at least give it a shot. At least Fallen was pretty well put-together (despite a bit immature). So after watching 15 year old wannabe goth chicks salivating for years over Evanescence's upcoming sophomore album, it's finally out.
Considering that studio music is the only thing Amy Lee can get right to begin with, (ever heard her live?

) when that is limited, blah. There are two good songs on this CD(Lacrymosa and Like You), and the rest are a jumbled up mess of bad music, bad producing, and mediocre lyrics with the deep thinking that a kindergarten student would display.
Fair warning, download the few good songs, leave the CD on the shelves and save your money. I was definately not impressed at all by this effort in hardly any area.

I don't listen to that general type of music, but I happened to listen to her old, new and live stuff. She seems like she really has potential to have a great voice, but she really limits her range with that whiney, holding a note out for 6 measures crap she does. There was one or two parts where she did hit a really high note, so she can do it. She just needs a slap in teh face to wake up and actually utilize her voice.

Jonathan, sorry i am going to have to argue this one... I have always loved Evanescence and I would say you are incorrect in your assumption that Amy Lee has no range... Track 5 Cloud Nine is proof there of. Personally i love both records, not just because I am a fan but i have listened to this record about 60 times already, and it still has the same effect that Fallen had on me when i bought that one. One thing i will say in your defense there are few tracks that could have been omitted when they put them on there. If you are trying to compare Amy Lee to someone like Christina Aguilera on range then yea there is no comparison to how high or low Christina can get, but Amy does a fair job of what she sings, and she also writes quite a bit of her own music.

Oh btw I did see Amy live in CT when they were promoing for Fallen, She was absolutely amazing... If you are referring to her performances on Pepsi Smash or any of the Awards shows i can honestly tell you that she sucked on those... but seriously she had been on the road for months promoing and she ended up with Bronchitis and still sung through it.

I agree with you Jonathan, new one is no where near the last. Only a few good songs

You find somebody with potential for a good voice, range or not, they either don't have the support they need to utilize it (Cristina Scabbia, Lacuna Coil, angelic voice, but will SOMEBODY kick the male vocalist out of that band, please?), or they just don't make the best of what they have (Amy Lee). Problem is, there are others that do, though they don't get recognized for it.

Hearing that one song they play on the radio should be reason enough not to buy the album. She has no range, as you stated.
If you like that generalgenre of music, and like beautiful female vocalists, I recommendyou look up Delain. They are from the Netherlands, and the lead singer has a beautiful voice (plus, she is nicer on the eyes than the Evanesence girl is). Maybe I'm just a sucker for her accent

Personally, I love Evanescence. My wife and I saw them in Columbia,MD several years ago and they were flat-out amazing. I can't comment about other shows but Amy blew us away that night.
I loved Fallen immediately. I wasn't too crazy about the new release in the beginning but it started growing on me in a big way upon further listening. I've now listened to it at least twenty times and I've grown to like it quite a bit.
Lithium was one of the few tunes which captured me immediately but it took me awhile to warm up to many to the other tunes. I give it 8 stars(out of 10)...a very worthy follow-up to Fallen.
