building a competion car (but not for myself)

One of the production techs at work always talks to me about car audio asked me if I would be intrested in helping him install a system in his sons show car. I figured what the hell, if nothing else I'll make his son mention me at all the show he attends.
The guy used to own a car audio store but doesnt really know that much about car audio, I'm talking about as much as me. He hired a kid that just completed a car audio school (Im not sure which one) and another kid who use to work at best buy but it turns out all either can do is your basic install, head units, coaxials, subs and amps. He has a shop manager who knows his stuff so the shop does pretty well under that guys direction.
Well the manger had some personal issues and could only work a couple hours a night and the 2 other guys didnt really know enough to keep the shop going by themselfs while the owner wasnt there, so after a couple months of looking for another manager he decided to close the shop for now.
Anyways, back to the point. He said that he thought about trying compete this summer just for the fun of it. I told him my plans to get my (now my cousins) 2 12" cvrs to 140db off 600 watts, and if I could do that I would try my had at competing also... He said he had a similar goal, but it was 2 12" cerwin vegas off 1200-1600 watts (he has a few amp choices) and he was shootin for 145 or better...
Niether one of us or experts, but I'm going to hound bill a whole bunch for tips and advice. Im going to work on a few box plans tonight, then tomorrow we are going to build a few boxes and see how loud we can get. Is son is taking the car after thanks giving so it has to be done by then, but if we can do a 145 or better hes going to devote a good sum of money for competion grade equiment...
Hes gonna let me look through his catalogs and lget whatever I want at his cost, which is pretty cool... Im just happy to find somebody else who shares the love of this hobby. Its not really about rather or not we can do it, its more about the fun we'll have trying.... :happy055: (although I think we can do it, with bills help *please please please please please?*
