It's an 87 Gt 5.0 h.o with a 5 speed. The motor runs strong but the tranny wants to jump out of 1st gear every now and again (synchronizers). The body is rusted out so I just plan on using the motor and tranny in my 86 gt. I'm getting the car for 250 and its complete and driveable, but the floor pan, rocker and 1/4 panels have alot of rust... Like I said, I'll just be using it for parts. If anybody cares Im getting the 87 for 250 bucks...

The 86 gt is a t-top car, which is semi rare. It's in near perfect condition (no rust, no tears in the interior). I bought the car with no motor or tranny... Oh, I paid 100 bucks for it, which I think was a dang good deal.

I'm going to rebuilt the engine and tranny before installing them. The block will be freshend up and will get ported and polished gt40 heads and intake and probably a ford racing E303 cam. I'll do the obvious mods like headers and full exhaust, Speed Density to Mass Air Conversion, msd ignition, ect..

The tranny will be rebuilt with a t5 wc kit and the rearend will get lower gears (depending on what it has now).

I'm also considering get trick flows twisted wedge heads and intake kit, which would run about 2,000... I thought about a 351c but for now decided against it, although I might reconsider it later, who knows?

So I have about 350 into both cars. I can get a complete gt40 motor with all acesseries for about 150 bucks. This is going to be bad a** budget build...

Tell me what you think of my plans and what you would do differently...

I'm also considering going carburated... I'm about 75% sure I'll keep the FI but I keeping having brief thoughts of going carbed... I think it would cheaper and easier to get the most out of a carbed setup, but then again fuel injection is sooo nice...

Anybody want to shine some light on this... whats you opionions?

I've heard of people running the stock block with the gt40 heads and gt40 upper and lower intake and gears (with the stock cam) getting into the high 12's... toss in a decent cam with some p&p work and that would knock off a few tenths...

I'd be happy with a high 12 to mid 13 second car... More than anything I want it to be reliable and fun to drive around ton...

come on kiki, you know you want to comment... Oh, and I think I want to keep the botton end stock (or mostly stock...)

I personally like this body style better than any of the other foxes, it just looks so much meaner... The 87-93 do look smoother, but 86's just look way more intimidating... I just think youre intimidated.... :happy055: :bow

I like that grey one with the T-tops...

Although the headlights really look dated by today's standards.

I'd personally take a car that was that nice, and find a more modern headlight that was roughly compatible (or have fun building one), and then have a body shop integrate it so it looked factory.

That would be custom - something that you really need to do around these parts, in what is otherwise a sea of stock looking Mustangs.... or more importantly, to differentiate you (or me) from the sea of hillbilly-mentality Mustang owners who don't understand what "custom" is (outside of chrome girl profile mudflaps).

Just a thought. :D

Hmm, I thought about doing a custom front end but the 86 stangs with t-tops are getting harder and harder to find... Every since I started visting the foureyedpride forum Ive gained a HUGE amount of respect for these cars... They seem like the forgotten stang, and the only stang we should ever forget about is the mustang 2's (read: pinto) :sad017:

I always liked the SVO's (with the 4cyl./Turbo) same body except the front end.
