Dual 1 or 2ohm coil sub???

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a particular sub, it comes in two versions - dual 1ohm and dual 2ohm.

I will be powering it by 1 amp, so I figure the dual 1 ohm would be better so I can run it in series at 2 ohms. This makes amp choice easier, otherwise I'd need a 1ohm stable amp.

Is there any advantages/disadvantages of running a dual 1 ohm coil setup? Or runnning a lower/higher impendences in general???

Well, it all depends on the amplifier you use really. I see that quite a lot of amps that are 600rms or less are only 2ohm stable, but once you get over that amount of power, most are 1ohm stable. So, figure out the amount of watts you want to run to your sub, then find an amp. Then just pick the coil config. that matches the amp.

Its all in wiring options really.

Most Class D amps are 1 Ohm stable...

I wouldnt go for a dual 1 Ohm sub unless its a big sub that requires a lot of power. The dual 2 Ohm is the better choice providing you have a single mono amp capable of 1 Ohm loads to drive it.

Now if you step up to 2 Ohms your loosing power. In other words paying for power you cant use.

I adivse you to look into it more and pair up your choice before buying.

Its a RE MX 12", 1500 wrms.

I've been looking at older Rockford Fosgate power series 1501bd or bd1500.1.

What do u think?

Well if its 1500 WRMS I would go for the dual 1 Ohm sub then find two 700 WRMS amps...

But like I said, find the amps your gonna buy before getting the sub ;)

if you do what ryan suggest its absolutly imperative that you gain match the amps! if you dont you will tear the sub apart. either that or get a set of strapped amps.

I planned on getting 1 1500wrms amp @ 2ohms.

2 amp option takes up more space, more wiring, more hassle.

I'll have a look into 1 ohm stable amps, as what Ryan says makes a point, about paying for power I can't use.

Any recommendations on a 1500wrms 1ohm stable amp. I want it as cheap as possible, but from a reputable brand. So nothing in the latest ranges, etc
