diamond audio d910 vs. re sx12

Post by kiyoshi »

hey guys, first time poster, long time reader. i have been using this site for awhile to base some opinions in the equipment that i buy. i was wondering what would be the preference of you guys between the d9 10" or the sx 12" for both SQ and SPL. i am probably leaning a little more to SQ, but gotta have that thump in the trunk, right? the car is a 90 celica hatchback. they are both from ebay new. the d9 for 279 and the sx for 234. also, the sub will be run off a hifonics bxi 1606d 1600w amp (probably overrated). thanks for your help and i will be looking forward to your opinions. :thumbsup

If you're looking for the added bump with an SQ set up I'd lean more towards the SX 12", but remember that whichever sub you choose the enclosure will mean just as much as the sub itself.

cool, for sure. I was looking at the SX really closely, I really wanted that sub, but the D9 looked good also. but yeah, thanks for your reply, I am going to go with the SX then. I guess I'll have to make the box myself. I know there is certain specs required of the enclosure for the SXfor a cross between SQ and SPL, should I run sealed or ported? Also, how do I test for the Hz of the enclosure? (ex. 1.5 cu. ft @ 35 hz). Since I don't know too much about the mathmatical concepts of speakers, should I have the box fabricated for me?

quote from scott the old re designer.

"I never designed the SX to have tons of SQ, but more of a SQL/SPL sub that simply took lots of abuse for daily applications or light SPL competitions."

the D9 is more oriented for sound quality than the sx.

however, owning an sx 12 myself, it does get VERY loud and still sound good doing it, better than other spl subs like L7/L5's and the like. i have mine in a 1.9 cft. enclosure, ported, tuned to 32 Hz, and its a pretty damn good combination of spl and retained quality.

in conclusion, both are good subs. hell, i even considered switching to a D9 15 awhile back, and still might. but for you, with the surface area advantage and design, the sx definitely has the potential of being louder. and the D9 has the potential of sounding better. your going to have to decide which is more important to you

Talk to Ryan on here if you don't quite trust yourself with the fabrication... He'll do an awesome job for you :thumbsup

I would go for the D9.

I built a wicked dual 12" box for a guy on here.

Im pretty positive hes happier than a pig in mud with it...

the D9 is a 10 and the SX is the 12, that's why I recommended the SX.

I am going to get the SX12, I've decided. Ryan, that would be great if you could build a box for me, what would be the estimated price?
