alright i just got a 150 amp HO alternator for my 1994 lexus es 300, so i take it to my mechanic and tell him if he can put it in, he says yes, then i tell him ok i need you to upgrade some wiring, he dosent understand, then i printed a page on the BIG 3 and tell him i need you to change these wires , then he tells me "what for?" (now this guy is a mechanic and electrician) so i got a bad feeling, talks to his son , calls his brother(who installs car audio) and he tells me i need a yellow top and thats it no altenator or wiring.
Anyways the guy didnt want to upgrade the wires or put the alternator cause he said it would ruin my car, damn it here i am with this alternator and i dont even know what to say, i am going to try another place tommorow , my question
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED BESIDES THE WIRING AND ALTERNATOR?DO I NEED TO TELL THE MECHANINCS ANYTHING SPECIAL ABOUT THE INSTALL?I DONT WANT MY CAR TO BLOW UP.

^^^Thats funny Bill.
Anyhow take it and tell them what you want done. The less info you give them, the better.
If it wouldnt work or would damage your car, we wouldnt reccomend it here!

I would suggest (if you can't install it yourself) to have a good shop install the alt, then YOU replace the grounds and the alt to batt wire. Most mechanics don't like doing upgrades as they want the fastest, simplest way out so they make the most money the fastest. just let them install it as is and you upgrade your wiring. that its the best thing to do. unless you know of a shop that specializes in custom work, which means more $$$$

tell him to STFU and do what you're paying him to do, the way you tell him to do it.
it isn't his business why.
he's an f'ing grease monkey wrench boy. he isn't a car audio master installer or an electrical engineer. tell him to stop trying to think, or he may hurt himself. just work.

yeah, try that. Then 2 weeks later it falls out and all of a sudden you need a new transmission!

then you sue him out of house and home.

Exactly what KiKi said. Tell him to do what you are telling him to do, you are paying him. You install the alternator, 4 gauge from the alternator to the battery, 4 gauge from battery to ground. You don't need a Yellow Top. In fact, Yellow Tops should NOT be used for starter batteries, it voids the warranty. Red Tops are made to be starter batteries. I suggest going to another shop. When I was getting my HO Alt installed, the first shop I went to gave me the same exact treatment. I finally gave up and just installed it myself.
If the alternator on your car is visible when you open the hood, do the install yourself, it isn't tough. If it isn't, find a shop that isn't stupid and will do what you tell them.
