system possiblities?

Post by MrSo0h0o »

ok, i know im gonna go with a set of the CDT 6.5 comps from thezeb.com, power that with a JBL GTO75.2(97x2@4ohm)..

which do u guys think would go better?
an RE 10" or type R 10"?

the RE is 175WRMS but is that underrated? and would this sound good with the CDTs? i dont need massive bump but i would like to feel it. i know the type R's are 300WRMS and that might be too much for my alt.

also, how much does the RE 10" go for and can i only get it through their website? what amp would do this sub justice?(something in a college students range). on your installs, do u all use some sort of sound deadening? i know even now with my stock speakers and aftermarket HU, my door panel rattles(not sure if its cuz the door panel is loose or speaker is just plain crappy). if sound deadening is recommended(who WOULDNT recommend it.. derr) does it make a big difference in SQ in the cabin if u sound deaden the trunk?

a lot of these questions on my mind so if i missed anything u need to know, just ask.. i check the forum literally every 5 mins when im home so i will see..

thanks!

Randy

EDIT: ok well i started doing some searching, and i think this amp could do the job. tell me what you think: its the Alpine MRD-301

350W x 1 RMS (2ohm @ 14.4V)
250W x 1 RMS (2ohm @ 12V)
150W x 1 RMS (4ohm @ 12V)
175W x 1 (4ohm @ 14.4V 1% THD+N) [CEA-2006 Power Ratings]

alright man, you should probably go with the RE's im sure the R's are a little better but were on a budget here, yes go with the RE's they are very affordable subs and they only take 175rms, IF i were you id go with 2 drivers maybe some 10's or 12's, ported, that amp would go perfect with 2 RE's, the amp is a class D so youre pulling less from the electrical system and you only got a 2 channel besides that so youre drawing aproximatly 71 amps(if youre the guy with the camry you have 90 amps) at peak(thats VERY VERY minimal for a set up) if youre going a little over dont worry youre gona be pulling a little from the battery, if youre pulling a LOT then start thinkig about the alternator, overall it looks like a great set up thats affordable and isnt gona require 300$+ in electrical upgrades(just bought a HO alternator for my es 300{fits camry})

also if i were i would upgrade the big 3 its the best thing to do rather then adding capacitors and batterys and putting more strain on the electrical system check this out big 3

how much do the RE's go for? and i dont know if i wanna take all my trunk space with 2 of them in a ported box, nonetheless.. i was thinking just one 12" sealed. what would be good to power that? are RE's better ported? i was lookin on the RE site and they had layouts of ported boxes.. im not sure. but i would like to keep things small.. i dont need a big system.. just something to satiate my need for good sounding music. ive been patiently waiting for months and months to do this and im getting to the point where im almost ready to just splurge and go all out. but i have been taught better: think twice, buy once. alright if you INSIST on doing only one sub do it ported, do it right so it sounds good, definently look at RE's boxes designs if you wana get the right sound, i just tried my xxx sealed and i did not like it, and i tought i would love it cause i do listen to a lot of non rap music.Anyways i think the 8' are 80 so like the 12's should be like a 100 something.

it all depends on how u like ur music tho. i listen to a wide range of stuff from heavy metal to rap and i like sealed the best. the SQ is great. ive heard a few ported boxes and they sound nice and loud...but SQ wasnt all that good. i dno...just my 2 cents.

My nexy subs will be Adire or RE.

The box will be sealed.

All sealed boxes Ive ever built have always sounded good on all music I have listened to.

The ported, well theres just some songs that seem to miss a lot of it :(

I prefer sealed over ported as well, i think im gonna get a normal spec box, then a very large sealed and see what sounds better, Im thinkin 2 cubic ft per chamber would be good enough to run re xxx 12s with 600 watts a piece

I just bought a refurbed MTX Thunder 311D for $84 shipped off ebay. Very solid amp. I would reccomend checkin out some of the MTX's on there and find one that fits ur needs. I'm assuming its dual 4ohm so you could prolly go the same route with the amp I got. Its rated 200x1@2ohm at 12.2 volts and 311x1@2ohm at 14.4 volts. I'm gunna be usin it to run my RE8...ahh thats a lot of power but i'll be careful with my gains just as you should if u decide to run somethin like that.
