Ok, so friday night I'm over at my cousins house and his grandma starts getting really sick. First her blood pressure is really low, then it spikes up really high. She is also sick to her stomach and is vomitting, plus she says her head feels really funny...

We help her out to the car and run her to the hospital. We sit in the ER for around 2 hours before they take her back, even then they just put her in a room and leave her. Well my cousin and I are hanging out with her when all of a sudden she starts feeling like she has to vomit, so we run to the nurses station and ask one of the nurses (a gay dude) for a bucket or someting. Apparently we catch him a bad time because he gets all pissy and rolls his eyes before throwing his bag of chips down on the counter. He then casually walks into the room and tosses a little kidney shaped bowl on her lap before walking back out. Obviously the bowl was full within the first 5 seconds but 'gay boy' was back to feeding his mouth so we had to fend for ourselfs (it's fun cleaning vomit off the floor.)

So after about another 30 mins she starts crying and says her eyes are burning, so once again we have to bother 'gay boy', in his usual fashion he gets all pissy and goes in there, this time he puts a wet rag over her eyes before leaving (great job!)

After another hour and a half passes before the doctor comes in and says they'll keep her over night to watch over her but they cant find anything wrong with her (not that they really looked!)

So they let her out on saturday and tell her nothing is wrong, even though she's now partially paralyzed in the (left?) side of her body and her speech is terribly slured. Also her vision was greatly affected (literly happened over night.)

Well she's felt absolutely horrible every since, including today which is the first day she goes in for dialysis since all this mess started. The nurses took note when I had to wheel her in instead of her walking like usual. They ask her why she wasnt walking so she told them the story about what happened, the nurses didnt look to trilled about this but didnt really say anything about it either...

Well about 15-20 mins later the director of the clinic came out and started talking to me, she wasnt very happy with the hospital for letting her go. In fact, I think its fair to say she was pretty pissed about it. She said that she's going to call the director of the hospital and let him know what happen, that and some other people to see if some type of action can be taken against the hospital.

Apprentaly what was causing her headache and eye problem was the fact that her blood pressure was spiking up and down so fast that it was closing off some of the vains going to her brain (she explained it much better than that, but I'm not as good with words/medical terms.) This would also be the cause for her being paritally paralyzed and her speech problems... If they would of gave her something to control her blood pressure when she first got there she might of never experince the paralyzation or the speech and eye problems, but now she'll have to take some rehab and she'll probably never be back to where she was....

This hospital is well know for this type of thing, its gay and I hope they get closed down for it. I have half the notion to go inflict some serious pain on 'gay boy', but he would probably enjoy it in a freaky sexual type of way...

She's in St.Louis at a good hospital right now getting the proper treatment, hopefully she'll make a full recovery but that seems kind of doubtful right now... I'm not a religous man, but I do pray she gets better...

That sucks man, I hope something does happen to that hospital. Try writing a letter to your congressman, and if out of his/her district the congressman for the hospitals district too. The hospital most certainly will receive federal money so the congressman can raise holy hell about it. A similar thing happened to me while in the military, and my doctor (Major) and Commander(Capt) wrote my Congressman a letter.

I was in a really bad car accident and I guess because I had a bad cut on my eyelid they sent me to the regular ER waiting room instead of trauma, sounds like she should have went to trauma. I kept saying my back and knee hurt, and the ER docs kept ignoring me, even after they would ask if I was in any pain. Next morning went to sick call, basically went to hospital, went and saw my future doctor did X-Rays etc. had a couple fractured vertabrae, and torn ligaments in my knee as long as my back.

Needless to say my Congressman actually showed up in person to the military hospital I was treated at and tore the Hopital Director and ER Director, both General Officers, a new asshole. In fact new regulations were put into place at that hospital.

If your Congressman is worth anything maybe he/she would do the same thing. Hope that helps some understand that it is your Congressmans job to fix problems like that.

She had a stroke. That is where the paralysis came from. Hemisperic Paralysis (aka Hemiplegia) is a dead giveaway. Also this is exactly what I thought was the culprit even before you got to the diagnosis. I would be calling a lawyer right now and throwing down can of whoopass of epic proportions on that ER. As a former paramedic, that kind of treatment, or lack thereof, is totally uncalled for, reckless and to be quite honest, they should be sued over and over and over again.

My advice...get a lawyer!

I trully hope something is done about that hospital, and gay boy!! That is a terrible thing when someone is hurting/ailing and you can't do anything about it, and the people who can aren't doing a thing! I pray she has a full recovery, and next that she receives a huge check coming out of the hospitals pocket!!

I would not say common, but it sounds like two cases of aortic aneurisms...or blood clots in the arteries that eventually causes them to burst. Without hearing more about the situation...I can't come to an actual diagnosis, and at best, I can only guess it without having the blood pressure and heartrate, breath rate and other vital signs before me. But it sounds like aneurisms to me.

I kid you not, the hospital is terrible...

We obviously wanted to take her else where but she wasnt up for the drive (next nearest hospital is a good 30 mins away.)

This is the very same hospital that killed one of my friends.. She just had a baby and had gotten sick so she went to the ER, they told her she had the flu and sent her home... She died shortly after, turns out she had hepatitis.

Newborn baby + no mommy = sad...

yup. that was a stroke.
consider suing that hospital, and name both that lazy nurse and the doctor, as well as the entire ER for delayed response.

The longer she's left with that stroke untreated, the more damage it's going to do to her, and the moe chance it'll be irreversible.

that bowl he handed you by the way, is called an emesis basin.
I can fill one of those n nothing flat when I throw up, too.

PS after consulting with my mother (an RN with over 35 years experience, military and civilian nursing) she's thinking your g'm had a heart attack, followed by a stroke.. she suggested if your g'ma has a family doctor, get an appt to see him asap.
She still neds to be treated for what's happened, and to prevent another episode.
