my budget is 150ish..
i have a 12" JL W1V2 single 4 OHM voice coil - sub puts out about 150 wrms
now i am planning to upgrade with the sub but not until late june, i was gonna get an audiobahn amplifier but the second i mentioned that here, i was informed how audiobahn amps for my budget are crap
so my question is with a $150 budget, can i get a decent amp that i can upgrade my sub later on down the line without having to upgrade my amp as well
let me know which amp you would choose for a single 4 ohm voice coil @ 150 wrms subwoofer

first the sub doesnt put out 150 watts it utilizes the power from the amp at 150w. look for a 2 channel stereo amp and just bridge it. cheap power can be had anywhere but stay away from the really cheap stuff. read the good bad and ugly list.

Actually, the sub's voice coil will thermally dissipate 150W before potentially becoming damaged. ;-)

like he said you can way over power subs but it depends on the lengths. ill be putting 2kw on a sub rated for 900. i put over 8kws on a mt which is rated for 3kws. remeber watts is just a thermal ratings

For a daily driver you cant and wont overpower a sub like that.
Heres the bottom line dude. 150 WRMS isnt much. Sure we can find amps that will work but in the end when you upgrade 150 WRMS isnt going to cut it...
So your decision is to run a bigger amp fromt he get go and hope the wiring brings the amp to a safely useable level OR you buy an amp now in the correct power range then use it for cabin speakers down the road.

hoping to get a new sub also, but ill worry about subwoofer selection then, thanks for everyones help, glad i got a 2 channel amp rather then getting a low power single channel amp, which is what i was GOING to do, but thanks again guys

Bwcad, you just run that amount of power for a couple seconds at most, right?

i only run 8kw's for burps if i run both amps. but i ran 4kw daily on my execution and it was fine. with impedence rise is was only seeing about 3000 watts though. but i was running it for about half an hour and the volume wasnt full all of the time. so dont forget that. its all thermal if the coil has time to cool down between runs of lots of power it will be fine. if you daily drive a sub that is grossly over powered for a long duration of time it will die.
