I have the head unit JVC KD-G420. Heres some info on it:

I just bought the pioneer speakers, TS-A6880R TWO 6"X8" 4-WAY SPEAKERS 240W and TS-A1681R 4-Way 260W.

I think I will need an amp for these tho I know basically nothing about amps. Anyone know what kind I will need and how powerful of one i need? Any help would really be appreciated.

I would hook it up to the stereo to begin with.

See how it suits you. Adding an amp will make it louder and much more crisp.

I would say 100 WRMS into 4 Ohms and 4 channels would be plenty for them...

If thats all you have, hook the mub up. Whats better then free? A watt is a watt, and a free watt is the best. I say hook it up and use it. And if it sounds good to you....well thats all that matters. Just don't drive it into clippin.

under powering won't damage a speaker....over powering and clipping will. clipping is when an audio signal gets "clipped" (literatly).. i'm not an expert on this so i'll let someone else explain but this is what one looks like :)
