my friend bought 2 12" Volfenhag's and he's burnt up 2 seperate amps. some off brand and now a 1600 watt boss. the fuses never blew and the power light stays on.but smoke rolled out of both amps. what should he do? is it the remote wire?where should that be hooked to?

Do you know what ohm load the subs are wired too? Tell your friend to look into some decenty quailty equipment. The remote has nothing to do with it. It should be hooked up to the remote turn on terminal on the amp.

what about the other end of the remote should it be hooked to the remote on the head unit.also what kind of amp will push those 400 pound paperweights.

Yes the remote wire should be hooked up to the the remote wire on the back of the HU. Your amp wouldn't turn on if it wasn't hooked up..so how did you blow the amps? I would suggest you go to your local audio shop and have them install if for you, or show you how, if you dunno what the remote goes to and what knot. As for the subs, I would use them as a dart board, or an anchor for ma boat...

Well keep askin Q's it is very easy to learn. I was just stating before you go out and try installing make sure you know what you are doing is all I'm saying. The brands you listed aren't great. But if they were cheap and thats all he is looking for....we can make them work.

Ok what highsociety is saying is... First off your remote lead is connected to your head unit, or the Cd player as you might call it. There is a wire clearly labeled (or terminal) that comes off the headunit indicating where to hook up. Run that back to your amp(s). This is pretty simple, can't really F#ck that up. You need to be sure that your subs are compatibel as far as ohms for that specific amp. This might be your problem. sorry i don't have more time to elaborate i'll get back to this post later if i get to it. If i were you i'd stop into a local shop, or keep asking around here.
As far as your equpiment, it's far from the best, but if thats what he wants then he can make do. you get what you pay for :)

Sure the subs arent blown and causing the amps to blow?
It is possible...
speakers aren't blown

a friend looked at the amp and thinks it can be repaired. we still haven't checked what ohms output the speakers are conneceted to.that might be the biggest problem.
