Dual 4 ohm questions

How can I tell if my dual 4-ohm sub is wired parallel at the sub or at the amp so that it can run at 2 ohms?

There are 2 wires running from the amp to the sub so is this probably an indication that it's being done at the amp?

a sub is usually wired together inside the box but if there is 4 wires (2 positives and 2 negatives) coming out of the box then im sure its not done. also youll want to check the leads with a DMM tomake sure everything is correct.

hmm its just two wires so does that mean it was wired inside the box to run at 2 ohms?

or 8 ohms depending on the wiring

so its not possible to have the 2 ohm or 8 ohm setup done at the amp instead and everything lies with the wiring of the sub in the box?

regardless of whether or not it is done in the box or at the amp it is still just different wiring, series or parallel, that defines whether you will have 8 or 2 ohms with a dual voice coild sub....each voice coild is 4 ohms and has its own positive and negative......if you connect both positives together and both negatives together this is parallel wiring and it can be done at the amp or at the sub inside the box....

then there is series wiring where you send the negative to one voice coil and the positive to the other and then run a jumper wire between the remaing positive and negative.....this can also be done at the amp or the sub.....

you should have only one set of speaker wires coming out of your box....a positive and negative as either wiring setup is most commonly done at the sub inside the box....what you need to do is determine with a dmm what you impedence is.....
