compustar so expensive....help?

Post by lotas »

I need some reassurance that this alarm is worth the money. The compustar LCDs in the series installed for me go 720$...then like 640$ ...then 580$ or something.

anyways this is a shitload of money. I've spent prolly 2grand on caraudio so its almost half of what ive spent.

Do you guys think an alarm is really a neccessity? There have been quite a few thefts within a mile radius of my house lately...but do I need an LCD screen?

and if you say I dont, then whast the point at having an alarm at all---its not like people actually stop anything that happens if they hear an alarm going off. A lot of the time they just figure it went off by accident, or you set it off yourself or someting. Anyways I just need some reassurance.

by the way do those prices sound high? 70$ of each or so is due to i have a manual transmission and they have to add extra shit.
thanks a lot.

Get some model #'s to go along with them prices.

The prices sound in line to what they used to be.

It all depends on how much you value your system and car in general.

With all the break in's your noting why not? Just before you actually confront a crook dial 911 as you never know whats about to happen...

I know my Comp U Star saved my car/system twice now. Once in Toledo and once here in town.

Right out back of my place about 3-4 am. I heard the first stage chirp. Woke me up. Then all the sudden it went off and the remote was a beeping away. By the time I could make it to the door they were gone...

:sm29:

BTW the silent alarm on the car works wonders. The pager still goes off :fing02:

hey i have some model #'s/prices here ryan:
2W900FMR- 720$ isntalled. 400$ just for the alarm
2WFMR - 620$ installed. 340$ just for the alarm.
1WAMR - 500$ installed. 220$ just for alarm. (he said I could get this system here and then upgrade to the LCD remote whenever I wanted for 200$)

anyways i know he's gonna make me some sort of a deal because he's a friend of a friend of mine. So far im thinking No to the 720$ one.

by the way these prices include Starter Kill, Manual tranny remote start, and dome light supervision.
isnt the only difference between the 2w900 and the 2W the range (3000ft vs. 1500ft) and the fact that the 2w900 vibrates and beeps?

do you think I need the vibrate, or would just the beeping remote be enough? how loud is your beep?

thanks.

I would goto compustar's website and read up on them a bit.

I would at least go with the FM one :)

well i read the users guide to the 2WFMR and it sounds like all the features i want. The only thing im hesitant on is the fact that the 2WFMR beeps and does not vibrate.... i dunno if the beep will be noticeable or if it will be loud enough to get my attention say...at a movie or something.

absolutely I think an alarm is required. If you don't have one and your gear gets boosted, all I have to say is.. your fault.
The LCD screen is cute, but not required. You just need something that attracts attention to a thief when he's trying to break into the car to scare him off. You also want an alarm made well enough not to false often, and if you can, to do things like make it very difficult to bypass the alarm by good design and good installation.
As for Compustar, they are very good alarms, but most of that cost is install labor.
Their top of the line model 2WSS-AS sells for about $250 plus additional sensors, so maybe $500 for everything.. the rest is labor for a good, experienced installer.
Installing an alarm can be an all day job even for a pro if it's done right and it's a complex alarm.

"and if you say I dont, then whast the point at having an alarm at all---its not like people actually stop anything that happens if they hear an alarm going off. A lot of the time they just figure it went off by accident, or you set it off yourself or someting. Anyways I just need some reassurance."

The alarm attracts attention. That's it's purpose as well as things like keyless entry, starter kill to prevent hotwiring, rolling up your windows for you, etc.
I've had mine go off numerous times in front of my house at 2am, and thankfully so. I've caught several people trying to break into the car. None if them ever succeeded thanks to the alarm systems I use.

Two grand or twenty grand for your stereo.. it's all a matter of how much it's really worth to you to come out in the morning and not find your windows smashed and everything in the car gone.

hey thanks a lot for the response, that really boosted me to get an alarm. Supposedly the installer at this place is one of the top installers in the country. I somewhat trust this guy who's telling me this because he is a friend of a friend but then again he has never heard of RE, which I find very odd if you've been in the car audio business for 10years.

i dont believe at all that their installer is one of the best in the country, but i do believe he is a quality installer.

so yeah right now its looking like the 2wFMR with manual remote start, starter kill and dome light ... installed for 640$

do you guys think I should talk to the installer about putting the brain behind the glovebox or somewhere besides just under the dash?

You want it installed in a place hard to get to and to see.

So find that place under the dash or elsewhere and tell them thats where you want it.

well i just go the compustar 2W900FMR.... i have a question for anyone that owns a compustar alarm...or justk nows this

you know the shock sensors? it says light impact will set off the first shock sensor and chirp 4times and heavy impact will set off the second one and set the alarm off.

what exactly is light/heavy impact? what came to mind for me was light impact would be like hitting the car (vs. leaning up against it) and heavy would be if someone hit it with another car or something.
