jl 300/4 question

if u know anything about the 300/4 maybe u can help me. I'm thinking about buying one, but first i have a question. I think i remember reading somewhere that if you hook up a set of 2 ohm speakers and a set of 4 ohm speakers to it, it will recognize the lowest impedence load and put out power accordingly. In this case, putting out 75w to the 2 ohm speakers and 37.5w to the 4 ohm ones. Is this true, cause that would suck in my case. Thanks

The JL slash amps are regulated. Whether you connect a 4 ohm load or 2 ohm load, it's going to put out the same power.

even if both are connected? with lets say the 2 ohm to the front channels and the 4 ohm to the rear channels?

Slash amps have a regulated output. If you read the specs of the amp it states, from 1.5 to 4 ohms - 75 wrms. That's per channel. So for each channel, left front, right front, left rear, right rear, at long as you have an ohm load between 1.5 and 4, it's going to put out 75 wrms on that channel. Any other ohm load is not recommended by the company.

just incase you are gonna bridge it, it's only stable in 3-8 ohms in bridged mode

i wasn't planning on bridging it, but i was able to find the answer to my own question. I guess in case anyone else ever plans on using this amp in the same way i wanted (with a set of 2 ohm and 4 ohm) this will be useful. If you read the manual on the website it states:
"Because the 300/4 utilizes a single power supply, it will set itself up based on the lowest impedence present at either the front or rear amplifier channels. For example, if you connect a 2 ohm load to each front channel and a 4 ohm load to each rear channel, the amplifier will adjust itself to deliver 75 watts x 2 to the front 2 ohm loads, but will only deliver half its optimum power (37.5 watts x 2) to the rear 4 ohm loads. If you connect a 4 ohm load to all four channels or a 2 ohm load to all four channels, the amplifier will deliver 75 watts x 4."

i guess i wont be getting this amp, or i just get a set of 4 ohm rear fill speakers and see if anyone wants some 2 ohm infinity kappa 6x9's. i dont know...

so yeah, my new thoughts are now possibly a couple JBL amps, the BPX1100.1 and the PX300.4. Both look badass, the 1100.1 is their crown made one, and i can get the for about the same price as the jl 1000/1 and 300/4. Anyone have any experience with these JBL amps???

I would say you would be downgrading if you went with the jbl amps. I know jbl has some good amps, don't want to piss anybody off, but JL is a better amp in my opinion. But if your buying amps on how they look, Sony has some totally RAD looking amps :p

joeyc, by badass looking i meant specs, not the way it physically looked. i actually dont care too much for the way they look but their growing on me. So anyway, yeah, the bpx1100.1 and px300.4 are looking pretty tempting right now. Both would be putting out more power than the JL's and the bpx1100.1 is their crown one. Anyone else on here ever mess with em??
