i need some help here i have a 97 sunfire and i just installed new door and back dash speakers...i've never had a shut off problem before but i've narrowed it down to too much bass being pushed to the speakers will cause it to shut off until i either a. turn the volume down or b. turn the bass down...does anyone know how to solve this problem? any help would be nice.
p.s. i do not have subs or anything like that

ok so you installed new speakers.. stock HU, or after market? what it sounds like is you have them wired wrong producing and ohm load that your HU cant handle at high volume.. make sure your + and - are wired right.

Well, the ohm load on a standard speaker is 4 ohm, so that SHOULDNT have anything to do with it. But that is what it sounds like if he were running a seperate amp. Also, having the + and - wires reversed SHOULDNT have an effect on the HU, it would just make the speaks sound like shit.
But like Jared said...Stock HU or Aftermarket HU? Are you using a separate amp?

If you are using a factory head unit, the problem could be the speakers. Check the impedence of the speakers you took out. Sometimes factory uses 6 ohm, 8 ohm and even 10 ohm speakers. I don't think I've seen more than 10 ohm. Anyway, that could be part of the problem.

You might have a grounding problem behind your head unit. If you don't have a good enough ground, when the amp tries to pump out the power, it's shitting off. Just a guess. Now that we know it's an after market head unit.
I'd double check all the connections behind the HU. make sure you don't have speaker wires coming loose and make sure your ground is good.
Where in AZ are you?
