ohm question

ok so evenutally i am going to need new subs for my car, and then put the ones i have in my car now into the new mustang

so i was looking at this sub

Now i was also looking at this amp

Would this amp be powerful enough to power this sub to full potential

# Rated Power 12.5 V: 480 W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm
# 800 W RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm
# Rated Power 14.5 V: 640 W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm
# 1000 W RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm

that is what confuses me

I have a chevy cavalier that they would be going into what one of those RMS numbers would i be looking at the 480 At 4ohm's or like the 1000 at 2ohm

with that sub you would be wiring it to 2-ohms. you need to check your voltage to see how many whats you would be getting, but its probably going to be close to 1000 watts

JL is saying,

The lower ohm load you run it the more power the amp can make.

AND

The more power (voltage) you give the JL to work with, the more power (watts) it can make.

Both are normal of unregulated power supplies.

Well, i was trying to download a picure of my subs but i can't do it. I have 2 pioneer subs, DVC. They are wired + from amp to + on 1st sub to second + on 1st sub. Then from 2nd + it gos to - on 1st sub then to 2nd - then to 2nd sub 1st + then to 2nd +, then to 1st - then to 2nd - then back to amp - . Anyone know if this is a 2 ohm load or what load it is, thanks, Steve.

and it depends on whether or not the sub is dual 4ohm or dual 2ohm

Dude...what is the voice coil configuration on your subs? Dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? Also, what amp are you running and is it stable to 2 ohms?

They are dual 4ohm. When i bought them i was running an older fosgate amp and the guy where i bought them told me to wire it up this way, which i think might be 2 ohm. Now i have a PPI A1200 and it is only 4 ohm stable.

Well, its impossible to have (2) dual 4 ohm subs wired to 2 ohms.

To wire them to 4 ohms, follow the second diagram on this page:
