serious enclosure problem

Post by 6three6mafia6 »

i currently have a ported box 2.5ft with a tube port tunned to 28hz and this box plays the lows real strong, but it dosent play the upper notes at all, sometimes its barely audible and sometimes its silent, my crossover is set at around 100hz and i know it has something to do with the box because i tried 2 other boxes slot ported and they play the upper frequencies but it dosent play the low frequencies like the tube port box, i built one to RE's specs(i went through hell doing it, my first) and again plays the upper notes but not the lower ones, i need help someone please, i know if a box is too small it wont play the lows, so what makes and enclosure not play the upper bass?

Welcome to the trade off between ported and sealed.

You have a small gain in output with ported, but look at what you loose.

Set your crossover around 60 hz. You don't want your sub to play frequencies so high. It makes the music sound like crap.

I'm completely with Dustin on this one.
if you want midbass, get midbass drivers.
8" or so, and not subs, but shallow mount drivers made just for midbass, like the adire kodas for example.

no i know its not supposed to go THAT high , i dont expect a sub to play the midbass frequencies im talking about the ones right below the midbass, anyways i give up im gona go sealed, quick question , on RE's site it says 1.5 for a 12 inch xxx with 28hz tunning for teh sql box???i tought only ported boxed required tunning or could even be tunned, and for the sq box its .8 and there is no tunning?how do you tune a sealed box?

Look again, both the SPl and SQL boxes on RE's site are ported.

I emailed re a week or so back and got this back this is for a XXX 12" Sealed box
We would recommend .8-1.2 cuft sealed after subwoofer displacement (approximately .2 cuft). Dimensions for sealed enclosures are not too important provided that the final volumes are correct.

Thanks,

The actual displacement of the 12" XXX is .18, if you don't want to use their estimate of .2.
