Need help w/finding a install kit!

Post by JGKC9AYC »

Just got the wife a '98 Ford Taurus Wagon. It has the electronic climate control (no knobs). It has buttons for a changer, but I don't know where the changer is or if it's just set up for a changer.
I haven't seen dash kits for these, but I must admit i've just started looking. Can one install an aftermarket radio in these?
Where's the changer located in a wagon? I looked in the back & all I could find is the donut spare on one side & a storage compartment on the other.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Never look or installed in the car you have. But does the Stock cd player have a built in CD changer? And yes you can install an after market radio. Go to your local car audio shop and ask for a dash install kit. And they should have one. If not they can easily order one for you. Oh and if you do go to install a aftermarket HU, look for...the name slips my mind but it's a connector that connects from the stock wiring harness and has the wires labeled from that, and you just wire that up to your HU wiring harness. ( You can pick these up at walmart) I think they are called wiring harness adapters.

they dont make a direct kit because of the electronic controls but you can still put a deck in the cubby hole and wire it in manually.

Or you can have a shop custom fabricate a dash kit from fiberglass, but that gets expensive.

How expensive?
What's the deal w/the electronic climate control?
Anyone have any idea where the cd changer is? Or were all radios set up with controls for changers?

Thanks again.

Or a previous owner may have removed the CD changer. I would look around under the carpet or behind trim panals for the harness. Ussually they are in the trunk, but on a wagon I have no idea.
