my setup and sugestions
Well first of all I am new to CAC and would like to say say thanks for having me.
my steup:
I have a 2006 Ford F150 xl
Inside i have 2 pairs of mbquart pce216 powered by mbquart's qaa4250
I have 2 20 farad hybrid caps from sounstream 1 on each line connected to 2 u.s.amps merlin d2 @ .5 ohms.I have 2 soundstream T412's.1 amp to each. Each 12 is in a seperate 2.2cuf vented enclosure.
my problem:
the t412 cant handle the power from the amps so i was thinking about going with 2 re xxx.12 wich go in a 2.1 cuf enclosure wich would make life easy (no changing of the current box).i wann know your ideas and if re is what i should get were can i get it.
problem 2
even with an optima marine deep cycle (blue top) and a 200amp alt and 2 20 farad caps i cant seem to get enough power for the system any ideas?
thanks

new XXX will need a new box. reinforced, and with supports inside the box to hol the subs at 72lbs each, mostly being in the magnet for all the weight. Those things are also VERY deep subs. You should really see them. the 55lbs old style XXX was big, and it's only half the depth of a new XXX.
as for power, the 200A alternator may be too small for a full size truck and that much power, and those high ESR capacitors you have are mostly useless. Consider going to an isolated Kinetik 2400 battery in the cab for the audio system, with a redtop as the stater battery. The blue was the worst choice of batteries. It's a marine battery and it's charge/discharge hysteresis is the worst of the optimas for audio use. the yellow would have beetn the better choice. especially as a starter/audio battery combo.
what makes ya think your subs can't handle the power, and you need more current? what are the symptoms? could it be that the amp gains are too high instead, or you need better ground points for the amps?
how much power does eac amp put out at it's current load (RMS) and what size cable did you use for power/ground?

a single 1/0AWG line is plenty. That can handle up to 350A of current depending on length, and that's far more than you'll draw from the alternator anyway, or the batteries.
The ground is fine as a single ground line, since if you're not going back to the battery ground, you're still limited by the equivelant resistance of the spot welds holding the chassis together, which is only about equal to a 4AWG cable to the battery anyway.
I honestly have no idea where people came up with the idea that they need ten ground lines and ten power lines to get clean power ten feet from a battery to an amplifier.

well kiki i dont fully understand it either but it makes a large diffrence in spl. thats y everyone does it. but i guess us spl guys are pulling more than 350 amps of current for instance i was pulling 271 amps per amplifier so i need 2 but adding multiple runs of 1/0 increases spl substantially. i can get Mike stiers to explain it better than i can if you wish.

only way I could see it helping would be IF the batteries could supply massive amounts of brief current, and the increased current capacity of the added runs helped in those second or two burps, at pak output of the amps (peak being up to 3X the RMS rating of the amp, but unsustainable.) Then if you have 5Kw of amplifiers, you could be drawing upwards of 15Kw of power for a brief moment.. But even then I'd think that would be more of an issue for the amplifier's power supply capacitors which are already charged. I'd really have to look into that to be able to find a good explanation of why it could actually show a consistant advantage.
is this vehicle in question for SPL burp events, or just loud daily driving use for music?
