I am planning on getting a JL Audio 12W6V2, and somebody told me that "an Alpine SWR 1222D produces a better sound for half the price". Now the price part of the statement is true, that much I can research on my own...my question is which sub is better? I have not had dealings with either of them...any thoughts are appreciated.
P.S. What about comparing a 12W6V2 and a SWX 1242D?

Personally I feel there are only a few subs that compare to the W6v2 for SQ. Among them are the old RE XXX, the Adire Brahma (XBL^2 motor), the ID IDmax, and JBL's DDD motor design. Mostly high end SQ subs.
While the Alpine type R is a terrific sub for around $200, it isn't a match for the W6v2. It's a great sub for the price, but that's about it. Not a W6-killer. The Type X is designed to be a sealed box long throw SQ sub, and it does well at it, but I don't think it's a "terrific" sub, and the people I've spoken with who use the type X aren't thrilled with it.
