very low volume output

Post by veggie-man »

today i installed my brand new HU ( http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKDAR760 ) it has a seperate RCA cable for the sub, so i connected the cables through that. when i started to listen to it, the sub was barley even on at all (speakers are fine!), so i adjusted the gain on it... i could go all the way up and still no diffrence. i could blast the volume and still a very low volume in comparison to what it was.
before i had the RCA cable connected i used a signal converter. it was 1000 times better than what i have going right now.
Note: i'm not sure if the preamp outputs for the sub are 5V but i do know that the front and rear outputs are 5V
humm a bit of a diffrent question... should my remote wire be on the side with my RCA cable or power cables or does it not matter much.

Check through the menus on the hu. Make sure you have the preamp volume turned up and all that stuff.

It doesn't matter which side you run the remote wire on.

Well, I hate to ask a dumb question, but you did hook the rca's to the sub preamp out right?

Theres a setting on the head unit for the sub out line volume. Also probably a part weather its a sub output or a standard rca out (full range).

Check to make sure the amp is setup right. If you have the crossover on HP or a high tuned LP its bound to not be loud....

alright i fittled around with everything... i'm not sure what i did but it sounds ALOT better....

what should the frequency on the amp set to? its at about 100 right now on low pass so i believe everything should be good.

Set the amp to what frequency you have your mains crossed over at (if they are), and if they aren't high passed, then really just use your best judgement. 80Hz is usually a good spot.
