say you have a mono amp.... we'll say 500w. you want to wire 2 subs to it. why is it that everyone says that each sub will get 250w? what is tehre to protect one sub from getting like 400w, and the other 100?

they will get 250 each if they are the same ohms. ohms is the deciding factor on how much power an amp will put out to a sub. if one sub is 2 ohms and the other is 8 ohms the 2 ohm will get more but they both will be powered.

500 watts at how many ohms?
the answer to your question is a simple one. two words in fact:
Ohm's Law.

if the two speakers have equal impedances, the current is divided equally among them when wired in parallel. each speaker will receive the same voltage, undivided.
Wiring in series, voltage is divided, while current is not.
