Amp protection mode
ok, here is the set-up my nephew has. 1 Power Acoustik LT980/2 amp powering a Alpine Type-S 12" dual 2ohm in a sealed box. All of a sudden the amp starting going into protection mode, then out, then into it again... the amp seems to only being doing this when hooked up to the Alpine (wired in a 4ohm configuration)(SP?) because he hooked it up to a pair of 10" RF subs he had laying around... Is the sub no good anymore or is there another other possiblities? I havent tried hooking the sub up to my amp yet to see if it still works...thats a project for tomorrow but i thought id check to see what you guys thoght. thanks

if the amp is bridged, it's only stable to 4 ohms, most likely.
ensure he's using a 4 ohm load. That would be:
a single coil, 4 ohm sub or
a dual 2 ohm coil sub with coils in SERIES.
If he has a dual 4 ohm coil sub, he either has a 2 ohm load (I'm guessing this is his issue right here) with the coils in parallel, causing the amp to shut down, or he has an 8 ohm load with the coils in series.
Need to verify the load per coil, number of coils on the sub, and how it's wired.
