I think my amp is dead

Post by Chris from MI »

Well, leaving the g/f house last night at about 2:30 and about 10 degrees outside. I get in the car and start it up. The radio turns on then I hear the amps click on, I hear this very wierd noise coming from my sub (almost like it is scrapping something) turn the volume down to 0, still making the noise. Turn the HU off and the amps shut off. So i am driving home and decide to try to turn them back on, when I do the noise is gone but one sub is lifeless :( .

Now at that point I was thinking it was the sub, so I get home and pop the trunk to check out the amps for the hell of it. The one is completely dead, no status light or anything just dead. The fuse on the distro block was fine. Well then today I get around to checking the fuses on the amp, all 3 40A fuses are toast. :confused
Now my dilema is do I try to replace the fuses and repower the amp or what? Anyone got any ideas of what it could be. Do you think cold weather could have anything to do with it? The amp is a JBL 1200.1. Any help is appreciated.

hopefully no condensation built up inside, and caused it to short.

Did you hook the other amp up to that subwoofer? Maybe the subwoofer is blown and causing problems.... oh and by the way :RE :)
