wires everywhere

ok. i have no idea what im doing. i was given a 12" bazooka sub and a sony xm 4045 4 channel amp. all i want is for them to work together.
my truck has an amp kit already installed in it from when i bought it. they took out their system but left all the wiring. they had one amp, one sub. so.
theres a red wire connected to my battery. goes through to behind my seat where theres black wire like it (exposed end). so positive and negative right.
then theres also two wires that are connected which split off to input .. things like at the end of headphones that you plug into a cd player. one red one black. theres also the same thing (two wires split at the end with the little connecters) in the front hanging down from under the dash. in the back again there is a loose wire which is actually two but it only splits at the very ends. and a small blue wire that is connected back wherever the power ones go.
so. ive tried red into power on the amp and black into ground. but i get no power light on the amp.
i dont know how to go from there. i havent tried any hooking up of the sub because i figure what does it matter if the amp wont even turn on.
i dont have any money. at all. my friends were nice enough to give me their hand me down stuff. i just would like to know if it can and how to make it run.

Ok, you got the power and ground wires correct.

The other 2 wires with headphone like plugs are your RCA's. They plug into the amp and give it the signal.

The small wire that runs back with the power wires is your remote turn on. That is the wire that tells the amp to turn on and off.

Try powering up the remote wire and see if the amp will turn on.

Edit: Also, make sure that there is an inline fuse installed on the power wire.

yea i agree with ted on everything! but i would first put all the wires on a dmm just to be safe! dmm is a digitial multi meter just check the voltages and make sure before you do all this disconnect the negative battery terminal!!!
