alright i to start off i have 2 12" kicker l7's in a 5' ported box and they are each dual 4 ohm voice coils so i plan on gettin a 1 ohm stable amp. i was thinkin about the cadence zrs-9, ppi dcx1500.1, or a kicker kx1200.1 but i would really like to get at least 1500 watts to them. anybody know how much these things can really take? any reccomendations on an amp? thanks for the help. - ben

I think cadence makes a nice amp. PPI used to be an awesome brand, but i think they are not as good as they used to be.

If it were me, i would rate them: Kicker first, Cadence second, PPI last.

The kicker is an underrated amp. They use an unregulated power supply and they rate their amps at about 12.5 volts IIRC. Since most cars charge between 13.8 and 14.4, the amp will push more power.

I also wouldnt recommend pushing L7's too hard. I just killed my 6th L7 in about 2 years.

yea i wouldnt give an l7 much more than half its rated rms. shitty build quality they have a high faliure rate. thats if you want it to last long...

I use the old addage...."More is not necessarily better"

Use the nominal power needed for the sub. That is why they rate it like that. When you push a sub to it's max, or nearly to it, your chances of the sub taking that kind of abuse vs. the abuse it will take with nominal power is greatly reduced. There are other subs out there that can handle more power, but may not meet what your needs are right now.
