Ok, so I am most definalty planning on buying Alpine Type Rs, 2 12" at 500 RMS each, but its the decision on the amp thats killing me. I dont want to end up spending 300 dollars on an amp and regret it later on. SOOO here are some of the amps that im considering
Used JBL BP1200.1 MONO AMP $200.00
RMS 600 @ 4 ohms
RMS 1200 @ 2 ohms
New Alpine MRD-M1005 Mono $320.00
12V
RMS 500 @ 4 ohms
RMS 700 @ 2 ohms
14.4V
RMS 1000 @ 2 ohms
I would actually preffer to find an amp that i could run the speakers as a 4 ohm load for better presision and tighter bass, but with my budget ill have to settle for 2 ohms. I guess the answer should be clear by getting a new Alpine over a used JBL, where the Alpine has the digital readout and controls, and the JBL doesnt even have a subsonic filter, just basic gain and frequency. But id still appreciate any suggestions and comparisons, or any suggestions of other good amps around this price.

Out of those two i would definitely pick the alpine. It blends perfectly with the power handling of the subs. The JBL might be a bit much for those 2 woofers IMO.
Just make sure that if you are getting 2 woofers, that you are getting the dual 2 ohm version.

The JBL puts out closer to 1400w RMS@2ohms @14.4V, but sense you want to run them at 4ohm..i'd definitely get the JBL.

the JBL is a nice amp but the Alpine looks to be suited better for your set up.

That wont make a difference. It will sound the same as a 2 ohm load.
at 500 RMS each
The JBL would suite you better. And you will get more power out of them. With that JBL you could wire your Type R's to 1 ohm and have the full 1400 like audio bass said.
Hell spkrman runs a orion2500d on his R's with no problem. Go with the JBL.
but with my budget ill have to settle for 2 ohms
JBL 1200 @2 ohms. it's also cheaper.

But because its cheaper i am also missing out on the extra features that the alpine has, plus the JBL is used. however id prefer the stronger power from the JBL. Idk if i feel all that comfortable buying a used amp with less features. And yet again every review i have seen on these subs say that they are good but power hungry, and i dont like the fact that the alpine would only give enough power when there is a 14.4 volt feed. Still some more thinking to do, dont want to rush into it. If the JBL was new i would have already bought it, but there isnt a garantee that it trully works and will keep working.
Thanks to you all for your thoughts.

Well if it helps any, I am running 2 jbl 1200.1's that I bought used and I have been using one for over two years and the other about a year. I have been running them at 2 ohm the whole time and haven't had a problem with them. Good amp IMO. If you dont mind giving them a little extra power, go for it. :happy055:

well, now that is jsut dandy
ok so i gues now i dont have either of those amps but in fact i just bought a zapco 1100.1 reference amp for 485
sigh, was only seeing how high it trully was, ive always been outbid in the past, but this time i won. o well, i have a 200.1 and it is simply amazing so i cant wait to see how much better this one does. kinda shaking right now at the fact that i am now in debt 485, and i havnt even bought my subs yet, hah. was planning on spending 500 total for subs and amp. o well, ill be happy with this amp, and if its crap it returnable. might do that anyway since i just spent so much. now im just rambling. o well
