Hey my cousins girlfriend needs some new speakers in the back of her VW beetle or bug or whatever the hell those arch ones are ;) anyways they are located on each side of the car, and they are about down by your upper leg and waist (somewhere around there, they are not at your feet) only problem is they only want to spend around $50 so at this point im looking for the best quality for the $$.

JBL GTO626 - Pricematched through SD for $55 from $99

PG Octane-R - Pricematched to $40

Pioneer TS A1671R (3way) - Pricematched to $44

Pioneer TS A1681R (3way) - Pricematched to $55

Alpine SPS-170A (type s speakers, 2way) - $55

now I have only heard the pioneers so I dont want to reccomend one because I havent heard the others. I would like some either opinions on these or some others. I reccomended infinity but he can only afford reference, i dont know how reference matches up to those other models. thanks everyone.

I would say drop the Alpine, PG, and $44 Pioneer. I'd check up on some reviews on the JBL's and Pioneers if you can.

yeah I just checked out the reviews for the jbl and pioneer (just on the SD site, of the customers) and they are about the same. Im thinking I should take the RMS into account, as they will be powered by a HU. I assume I will want to find the lowest RMS, so I can get the most power to it possible, with the mighty 18-22watts from the hu.

umm power handling has NOTHING to do with how much power the head unit is going to deliver to the speakers.. it also has nothing to do with sensitivity or SPL.
go read the FAQ section, lotas. you know better.

although for fifty bucks she may as well go to track auto or walmart and buy some sony speakers. she isn't going to notice any real difference no matter what she gets from a factory radio with back speakers mounted in the lower sail panels. she'll hardly hear them anyway unless she drives from the back seat.. or just spends a lot of time there with the car parked *cough*

if it were me i would get the jbl set but i have always liked their coax speakers. i really dont like triax speakers at all though but thats just me. you start getting into 3- ways and it just reminds me of the late 70's and early 80's when you could get 5 way 6X9's with dual super tweeters, man hook that shit up to your jensen tape deck slide in a
georgia satellites cassette and you were rocking!!!!!

The Alpine Type S speakers are actually really nice sounding speakers when amped, but as far as running of them off the HU, they wont really shine like they should. I've heard the Infinity Kappas vs. the Infinity Ref's run off the HU and there really isn't much difference. If you want a lot out of your speakers you're going to want to amp them, period.

on her budget with an otherwise factory system, for rear speakers.. not worth the cost or effort for an amplifier.. be serious. really any cheap pair of decent 2-way coaxials will be all she needs in that car. Especially if all she'll play on them is britney spears or country music anyway hehe

sorry... i figured a 35w rms speaker would do better with 20watts than a 70w rms speaker would. i know that a 35wrms speaker does not need 35wrms to reach its full potential, as rms is thermal. i guess i am wrong.

I know she will not notice much from her stock, but the stock are blown, everytime the bass htis there is buzzing, or popping, basically all the symptoms of a blown speaker, so she is just looking to get some in there that are not damaged.

have her get a sub in there and a deck so she dosnt rely on the coaxs to try and play all the low freqs.

yeah she just got a sub in there (she got a 12" kicker comp) and she loves it, i told her her speakers are not meant to play bass like that, but im not sure how her HU is set up and if it will be possible to tweak. her speakers play a lot of bass right now that they shouldnt... she lives 300miles from me so I only get to see the car when im visiting every now and then.
