I was wondering if it is bad to run just the tweeter of a component set with no woofer and using the crossover?

Not at all, just as long as you are using the crossover. (or a crossover for that matter)

if your just using the tweets i might know some1 looking to get those woofers if your interested in selling.

I'm just using left side with the tweeter only. The right side is running both the woffer and tweeter. I'm waiting for Alumapro to get another 6 1/2 for me. It's taking FOREVER.

I was concerned because ocassionally the left tweeter will make a slight pop when the bass hits. I turned down the gain for my component amp in case there is any clipping going on. We'll see if that helps.

If your crossover is 1st order (6db/oct), then it's ok not to run the woofer. If your crossover is 2nd order (12db/oct) or above, DO NOT run it without a load (woofer). Since high order crossovers use either caps or inductors in parallel (dependant on if it's a LPF or HPF) in the circuit, when the speaker is removed, the circuit becomes a resonant circuit. At the crossover frequency (or some multiple of the crossover frequency) the circuit will essentially present a 0 ohm load to the amplifier. The only resistance you will have will be in the speaker wire and the inductor or capacitor. Any time that there is audio at the resonant frequency, the amplifier will be stressed the same as if the speaker wires were shorted together.

Oops, that may be a problem. I believe the Rainbow crossover on the Soundline series is 3rd order (linkwitz-riley). I better throw at least a cheap woofer in there to prevent any problems. Do you think I have damaged the tweeter at all? Is there any way to tell.

It wouldn't damage the tweeter, if anything it would damage the amp.

I do notice a slight hissing coming from the left tweeter that can be heard despite adjusting the fader or balance. This noise doesn't come from the right side. Do you think it is the tweeter or the amp's channel?
