2005 Kicker CompVRs

Hey guys! What's going on?

Well, I just recently bought my first sub and amp setup. It is a 12" 2005 Kicker CompVR. I know that there are some users on this forum who use these subs, and others who have experience with them. I was wondering if you could give me your overall impression of the sub? Good? Bad? SPL? SQ? etc...

I use two of the 2004 models in a sealed box with about 1.25 cubic feet per side. Right now I am powering them with an Arc 1000.2t that I purchased from Justin. I really love these subs for how much I paid for the pair (less than $200). When I first got them I was concerned about how small the magnet is. I had some Diamond audio subs with magnets about twice the size, but in this case size doesn't matter all that much

They are definitely an SQ sub in a sealed box, but they do get pretty 'loud' as some would say. They provide a very strong 'kick' in sealed enclosures that I really like when listening to alternative music like 311, Audioslave, Rage, etc. They reproduce pretty good low bass too when I listen to some rap and hip-hop music.

If you haven't already, check out the Kicker website and look for their examples of different boxes. They have a couple vented enclosures that they claim will produce some more serious deep bass. Of course the trade off is that the box would be very large. I don't have room for a slot-ported box for 2 12's, unfortunately. If I could do it over I would probably get 1 15 and build a large ported box to their recommendations.

I can vouch for kicker's recommended enclosures.

I used to have 2 10 Kicker L7's in a small sealed box. Sure they were loud, but then i blew one of them.
SO...i built the largest ported box they recommend, and i think its louder than the old, sealed box.

I think he meant that his one L7 in the ported box was louder than the 2 subs in the sealed box, but I can't tell for sure.

Yes kevinberry...thats what i meant. Sorry if i was unclear, but i was in class...LOL.

The 1 L7 in a large ported was louder than 2 L7's in a sealed enclosure.

Hrm, have you tested in a ported box?

Sounds similar to sealed, just louder... and they really don't have the best SQ either way it goes :)

I wish I had the room in my trunk to build a ported box for 2 12's. If I did I definitely would give it a try.

I know these subs don't have the best sound quality, I just meant that they are more of an SQ rather than an SPL sub.

I have two 12" cvrs running off a jbl 600.1 and it sounds pretty good.

yea, they dont like less than 2 cubes and must be tuned very low to sound decent.

They just aren't much of an SQ sub IMO, but they do get loud.

I'd suggest doing one 12 in a good ported box... you'll gain all around :)
